The Morton Arboretum

About

A 1,700 acre tree museum, with award-winning Children's Garden and Maze Garden. The Morton Arboretum is a leading center of tree science.

Description

The Morton Arboretum is a tree museum. Open 365 days a year for exploration, from 7 a.m. to sunset, we have more than one million trees from around the world, criss-crossed with 16 miles of hiking trails and nine miles of biking roads.

Mission

Trees need champions today. Their survival depends on people—people taking action to protect and preserve them. Trees filter our air and water, reduce energy use, furnish wildlife habitats, and create beauty, and they need human help to continue.

That's why The Morton Arboretum is committed to scientifically informed action, both locally and globally. It's why we champion trees through scientific study, conservation, education, and outreach. It's why we protect and plant trees in a 1,700-acre outdoor living museum, in Chicago-area communities, and around the world.

"The Morton Arboretum is an internationally recognized tree-focused botanical garden and research center in Lisle, Illinois. As the champion of trees, the Arboretum is committed to scientifically-informed action, locally and globally, and encouraging the planting and conservation of trees for a greener, healthier, more beautiful world. On 1,700 acres are 222,000 plant specimens representing 4,500 different plants, along with specialty gardens, educational exhibits, award-winning Children’s Garden, 16 miles of hiking trails, and Visitor Center, featuring The Arboretum Store and the Ginkgo Restaurant and Café. The Morton Arboretum is a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization, welcoming one million visitors annually."

We went to see lights at night at the arboretum. What a great walk through lighted trails!! Synchronization music and lighting was beautiful and worth it to watch and listen. Very nice one mile walk, enjoyable view with campfires set up to warm up, and hot drinks stops for those that need warm up from inside . Warm restrooms were also available. Overall perfect evening, glad we were able to make it before the end of the season. Tickets were selling out on line very quickly. So if you are planning next year to visit you better grab tickets before they sold them out!!!
Relaxing, calm, meditative, and a plant diverse place to walk and explore. I love seeing the larger than life garden sculptures, and every time I go I discover a new path. Cross country skiing is accessible and a lot of fun here. The trails provide a nice variety of hills, scenery, and are beginner to intermediate in challenge. The Light Show in the winter is impressive, family friendly, and has a lot of variety in music and type of lights. There is so much to do at the Arboretum including classes and events, so a membership is worth it.
Beautiful views, amazing place to spend the day enjoying nature. Definitely wear your walking shoes because this place is huge! Maps are also a must if wanting to find all the human +nature statues, which I feel could have used more directions on the trails. Gift shop had some really cool items though it is on the pricey side, drinks and food on the high end as well, it was $6 for a small hot chocolate ; otherwise would give 5 stars.
Spent several hours at the Arboretum, the space is beautiful maintained. You can go for the nature, the art or both. We enjoyed the hedge maze, a TON of kids there for science camp but you could still go in and try to get lost finding your way out. We drove to most of the sculptures, follow the map provided and the signs telling you were a sculpture is located. We LOVED the whole experience and were lucky enough to see two deer in the woods while looking for a sculpture.
Absolutely beautiful! The new areas with the arbors and waterfalls are just outstanding. We walked all over finding the Human Nature exhibit statues and got lots of exercise! It was a nice day. You definitely need a whole day to explore
If you love the outdoors then this is the place for you. You can rent bikes to ride through the pathways which is pretty cool. The sculptures are amazing and beautiful, the detail is very excellent. My mother came along and she is 80, while they offer wheelchairs at no cost it was disappointing that they do not offer motorized chairs which would have been so much more convenient. This would be a great enhancement to the beauty of this place for those who need it. The majority of the art is on another side of the part which they advised was viewable from your car. It really isn't. You have to find parking and then walk to the art. On a hot day this can be a bit much. Overall it was a great family day and experience.
This is a huge and beautiful park that I've visited a couple of times and each time has been a little bit different because of the rotating exhibits and gardens. The walkways are wide and the trees are not densely packed so you will have large open areas with no shade. The west side of the park is much more prone to mosquitoes so prepare yourself if you venture on that side. The art exhibits that are incorporated within the park are absolutely beautiful, and the park is large enough you wouldn't be able to get to everything in a full day there. My only complaint is that the park lacks enough signage so while there are many things to explore, you will get lost trying to find them and/or frequently encounter other lost guests who ask you for directions.
We spent a few hours at the Arboretum, the spot is perfectly kept up with. You can go for the nature, the craftsmanship or both. We headed to a large portion of the figures, follow the guide gave and the signs telling you were a model is found. We partook in the entire experience and were sufficiently fortunate to see two wonderful peacocks in the forest while searching for a figure. Most certainly suggest.
The arboretum is an incredible experience, not to be missed. If your a local find time to visit, if you're an out of towner, it's worth the trip. There's nothing quite like the arboretum. Even just driving through is an experience. There are two sides, east and west, and tons of hiking trails. The Ginkgo Cafe is an amazing place for food and has incredible views overlooking a lake as you dine. They have events year round and great benefits for members. The membership is reciprocal as well with parks all over the country! The art installations are epic and truly add to the experience. As a photographer I never tire of visiting to capture the best of nature's beauty surrounded by so many different varieties of trees, flora, and fauna. There's a little something for everyone here and a visit here will truly be one you won't forget.
Amazing experience. Must visit if you are near by. Once you enter, there are few things to see near the visitor center like children garden, Maze, Shopping and restaurant etc. After that you can just roam around the beautiful places by car, there are plenty of place to trek and roam around in the car. There are over 30+ parking spots, which makes it comfortable to visit the place which you like, you can get a good exposure to the woods being near to your car. Absolutely loved it. Better to take a yearly pass for $60 and visit the place more often.
