We are a voluntary, non-profit, Hampton, Virginia group, dedicated to the preservation, history and the respectability of the final resting place of families, military and first responders.
Oakland Cemetery is located in the heart of Hampton, Virginia at 1009 East Pembroke Avenue.
Once consisting less than 300 acres bordering Hampton River named Oakland Farms, the cemetery became known as Oakland Cemetery consisting of a little less than 6 acres. The property was once owned by War Between The States Major Frederick William Jett and his wife Eliza. They and their two children are buried in St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hampton, Virginia.
At the death of Major Jett the property went to his wife Eliza and was divided in to divisions and sold off.
This organization was formed in order to protect and preserve the dignity of Historic Oakland as well as the families which come to the final resting place of their loved ones.
Oakland Cemetery consists of a little less than 6 acres of marked and un-marked graves.
There are over 4,000 buried here.
