Trinity Health System's cancer treatment capabilities grew substantially with the construction of the Tony Teramana Cancer Center in 2000. Since then, thousands of residents of the tri-state area have received cancer treatment at the facility. In 2010, Trinity expanded the center to accommodate the rising numbers of patients being treated.
Upon opening, the Tony Teramana Cancer Center became the premier cancer treatment facility in the Ohio Valley. As evidence of its quality cancer care, the Tony Teramana Cancer Center was featured in the July 2006 Issue of US News & World Report's Best Hospitals Edition. In 2007, Trinity officials realized that the facility had become overcrowded and needed to be expanded. Plans for this expansion were finalized and the center's treatment space has been nearly doubled. The cost of the expansion project was $8.8 million.
The Tony Teramana Cancer Center boasts a unique partnership with the two health systems in Pittsburgh, Pa.: Allegheny General Hospital and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. No other facility in the region can make this claim. Radiation Oncology services are provided by Trinity and Allegheny General Oncology Network Physicians. The Medical Oncology service is provided by Trinity and UPMC Cancer Center physicians.
The expansion also included support areas for diagnostic and program support to include the Oncology Patient Advocacy program, the Cancer Data Registry Program, and the American Cancer Society Resource Center and Volunteer program.
The center now has two state-of-the-art Linear Accelerators used for cancer treatment, a dedicated wide bore CT simulator, used to assist in proper patient set up, a new PET/CT scanner, used to help diagnose and stage cancer, all of which are integrated to help physicians create the most effective treatment plan.
The Tony Teramana Cancer Center also provides chemotherapy services in a new space within the cancer center. The open-floor plan was designed to provide patients care in the most comfortable environment, with natural light and plenty of space to have family members accompany them. This beautiful space houses 25 private (petitioned/curtained) spaces.

This service is due largely to the generosity of the Tony Teramana Family, whose $1 million gift made this center a world-class cancer treatment facility.
