You don't stay in the barn for lodging, there is a house out back which is the inn. Very unique situation but we loved it! It was so quiet and peaceful. Stayed for one night in mid July. There was only one other couple there I think, we hardly saw any other people! We walked the grounds, there is a beautiful view from the back lawn, quintessential Vermont experience! It was awesome!
Lisa, Chef, and Julie all did an amazing job organizing our wedding day! We had an amazing time and our guests are still talking about how perfect it was! The food was amazing, bar service impeccable, and the cake divine! The grounds were absolutely gorgeous for photos, too! We couldn't have asked for a better day, and a lot of that is because of the work that Julie, Lisa, and team put in! Thanks for hosting the best day of our lives!! - Mr. & Mrs. Hollick
Great location for a wedding. Very nice bar. I'm sure they serve great food as well but Pratt's Store Catering served good food for the wedding that my wife and I attended.
My husband and I held our wedding ceremony and reception at The Old Lantern in October 2022. We booked in September 2021 and worked with their staff to create our dream wedding day for 13 months. We were so pleased with the level of support The Old Lantern staff offered. This was our first time planning a wedding but was far from their first and it showed. They truly thought of everything and guided us every step of the way from what vendors to secure ASAP to working hard to understand our vision. The venue is stunning and we loved how much was included when booking tables, chairs, linens, catering, decor, the ability to do an on-site ceremony. We also really loved how flexible they were with bar options - we indicated our budget and we were easily able to work within that to get the most bang for our buck. We had a lot of wedding guests so needed to do a buffet dinner which wasn't what we originally planned for but it was wonderful. It was a plated buffet so they had staff serving. They had a plated dinner for my husband and I so that we were able to quickly eat and make our rounds. The food is INCREDIBLE. We held our ceremony on-site and were so happy to have had the perfect weather for our big day to be able to host it outside but also really liked their back-up rain plan a must in Vermont. We were the first outdoor Catholic ceremony hosted at The Old Lantern, having worked with Rev. Msgr. John McDermott. 10/10 experience working with The Old Lantern - Lisa, Ronald, & Julie are rockstars! We are so pleased with our venue choice and will remember our special day fondly for all the days and years to come.
I went to a wedding there in July. The family was not told there would not be any air conditioning until 2 weeks before the wedding. It was so hot that the bride became sick from heat exhaustion. She spent over an hour in the bathroom with her feet in cold water. The food was delicious but handed out sparingly. It was buffet style. When I asked for a second piece of pate, the chef/ owner who was serving said no. There was plenty left when they took all the appetizers away. For the main courses, he was slicing steak. He asked if I wanted one or two slices. I said two. Later that evening, I went back with another guest and asked for more. He only gave the other guest 2 slices. I asked for 3. He was not happy. He gave me 2 then a 3rd piece from a discarded to the side end piece. There was plenty of food left. It was soon taken away anyway. It was only about 7:30 but the wedding was not due to end until 10:30. I did not want to make an issue because it was a wedding but I do not know why he was taking away food that was paid for to be enjoyed by the wedding guests. It was not packed up for the family or wedding guests. Such terrible behavior from the owner, no less.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VENUE WITH PERFECTLY SUITED STAFF!! My wife and I attended a wedding here last weekend and had the best time ever! Not only was the venue convenient, it scored 10 of 10 on the decor and vibe! If you're looking for an authentic Vermont wedding or event, do check out The Old Lantern! You will certainly NOT be let down! p.s... If you're thinking twice about this penultimate wedding venue, they have the cutest and most comfortable on-site lodging suited for your most important guests!!
Great venue and best service I've ever had at a wedding!
Our son was married here last week. We rented the entire inn for family and friends and everything from start to finish was wonderful. The rooms were all unique and comfortable and the common area for gathering was terrific. Lisa provided a tasty and filling breakfast each morning with unlimited coffee and tea throughout the day. And, then the wedding! It all came together beautifully under the guidance of Julie, Lisa and Chef Roland. Their attention to detail kept everything moving smoothly throughout the evening. The food was delicious and we received many positive comments best wedding food ever!. Thank you so much for making this such a special and unforgettable experience for our family and friends.
In contrast to the excellent reviews by those who stayed here for a wedding, our stay as disappointing. It was on a mid-week night, with seven of the eight rooms were occupied. Signage was a problem. The barn was easily seen, but the inn? We pulled into what we immediately thought was the driveway to a private home, but it turned out to be the inn! The sign was out of sight. For $195, we thought it a poor value. After I asked, the owner brought in ice in an ice chest. After that, we never saw the innkeepers. The room was very small, with a chair but no desk. Shower had no shelf to hold shampoo, gel, etc. Towel racks up high. Not sound-insulated - e.g., you could hear the bathroom fan turned on in the adjoining room as well as voices. But the bed linens were excellent. Breakfast was a "snack bag" containing apple juice, banana, muffin, powdered sugar donut in cellophane, trail mix packet, and granola bar. Chef Roland, who apparently provides wonderful catering for weddings, did not make a hot breakfast for the guests. At least two parties were leaving as I was eating my breakfast snacks - one said, "We're bugging out of here - going to Middlebury for a hot breakfast." My advice: if you're attending a wedding here, great. If you're not, you'll shell out $195 and not get much.
Attended a wedding and had a fantastic time. The Inn was super nice and so was the barn. Plenty of room for everyone, and the food was amazing!!!!! The bar service how ever had to be spoken to by the host. The groom waitted almost 20mins for drink and i found that un exeptable. other than that lisa and the entire staff was awesome!
