Welcome to the website of the Open Mosque (masjid) of Blacksburg, Virginia. At the moment, we are located on Liberty Lane in Blacksburg-- off South Main Street. We hold Friday prayers between 1 and 2 pm depending on the season.
The Open Mosque (masjid) was created by 6 friends (3 men and 3 women) who sought a fulfilling, relevant, and warm Friday prayer experience.
As a result, the open mosque was born. Our congregation is made up of young professionals, graduate students, as well as undergrads. Both men and women take turns giving the sermon (khutba) and leading prayer. After prayer we generally have healthy, home-made snacks and a discussion.
We love that our prayer space is informal, laid back, and a place we can be ourselves.
Everyone is welcome to pray at the Open Mosque. We hope you join us.
