Rock Camp is not just a store, it’s a way of life.
The Rock Camp Store was once a local landmark and community center for Rock Camp and Monroe County, West Virginia. Owned and run by Linda Lee "Pinky" Testerman for ten years (from '94-'04) the store was a hot spot for locals, a safe haven for misfits, and a community center for all. It featured a wide collection of antiques for sale, pool tables, video games, and all sorts of activities. The store provided some groceries, cigarettes and was an official game checking station for hunters in the area. All were welcome, and all were cared for.
Seth (Pinky's son and the owner of Rock Camp Productions) would visit Rock Camp for seasons at a time to help his mother run the store.
Closed since 2004, when Pinky was diagnosed with cancer, it has not been open to the public since. That's not to say some cool stuff hasn't come out of it. In 2009 Seth built Puff T. Magic-Dragon (commissioned by Phish for their festival) and a major kite installation as a gift from the Credit Unions of Seattle to their patrons and the members of the city at large (check it out at www.discovercreditunions.com/kites). But now that Seth and his partner Jess call Rock Camp home, it's time to re-open the store!
We'll be throwing work parties (akin to what we throw leading up to the Pink Moon Festival) to get the store in shape and up and running again. We can promise lot's of fun, and mutual benefit for everyone! Come be a part of our community, local history and something fun and cool!
