I absolutely love this shelter! I adopted my cat here about 7 months ago, and I’m so glad I picked this shelter. Adopting was a great experience, since I got to interact with many of the cats rather than just seeing them through cages. The staff was super helpful and allowed me to spend more time with the cats I was interested in, after they initially showed me all the cats. They even do a final vet check up appointment before you take the cat home, and give you treats and toys. Make sure you give the shy cats a chance- my cat had been there for 9 months and was super shy, but now she’s the quirkiest see picture little ball of love! Thank you Scratching Post
Ryan Collins, the executive director of this shelter goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is very good at getting these kitties placed in homes and has a wealth of resources to do so. Cats under his care are given the very best chance and medical care they can receive.
It is a great place to donate cat food, toys, and various items that cats need while waiting to be adopted.
The work the folks do here is incredible, and you can tell they have so much love for the cats under their care. The staff and volunteers here know the personality of each feline, and takes the time to get to know you a little and match you with a good companion. The cats here really seem to live well and are happy. They share a connected building with a vet who is involved in their care, and with adoption they include coupon for a free yearly checkup. They really want to make sure you find a friend for life who is on the same wave as you. The kitty I adopted here at 7-8 months old was well adapted, playful, confident, expressive, and healthy! This is a great place to find a new friend.
I really appreciate this organizing/shelter. I went to adopt a cat there and they let me know about a health condition the cat had, however later down the line I found out there was a small percentage of the condition being contagious to other cats I have another at home. They went above and beyond to make the adoption work. However I decided I wasn’t comfortable with it so they still worked with me and I was able to adopt another kitty that worked for me best. Great people and they truly do care for their cats. The application process was fine, just give them a few days to respond, if anything just took about 3 days to hear something back and set an appointment. The adoption fee is 85$. They’re knowledgeable about their cats and are honest and transparent about what they know about the cats personality, health and history. My only suggestion is that they should post more of their cats on Facebook or petfinder! They have many unique cats waiting to be adopted. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you scratching post!
I had to drop the two months old kittens off there along with their mama cat found outside. Sadly, they REFUSED to take the mama. Imagine how kittens felt, like "Where's my mama??"
As a volunteer, this is by far one of the best cat shelters. While they would truly love to take in every cat, they obviously have to set limits so that adequate care & resources can be provided to the cats they already have. Overcrowding in shelters can lead to very serious health problems, and, during kitten season, the little ones are always prioritized. The Scratching Post ensures that every cat and kitten receives the best possible care. Their cats are all genuinely loved.
Really great experience adopting here. They're extremely nice and give you a lot of info about the cat. Also they give out a really nice bag of toys to go home, our cats are obsessed with the Columbian catnip bag. You can tell these people care a lot about raising and caring for cats.
The owners were very nice and informative. I wouldn't bring little kids, it's not fair to the kittens and cats. They are calm but obviously a little nervous at all the new people and they don't appreciate little kids pulling on them or being loud. Overall we had a great time and we loved the staff.
The Scratching Post is awesome!!!! It has several rooms you can walk into where the volunteers know who the cats are, their age and health history and temperament, so they can help match you with a perfect kitty. The cats are dewormed and fixed when ready for adoption. Our guy was 2 months old and we walked in and he was the one who seemed to like us best!
