The basketball sneaker industry has largely shifted to cater to the fashionably conscientious customer and very few retail outlets cater to the serious basketball player. Specialty sports shops with a focus on lacrosse, golf, baseball and football have been a presence in this region and have shaped consumer habits. We at The Sneaker Garden have decided to fulfill a need for this niche demographic within retail spaces that have existing captive audiences that participate in all things Basketball.
In 2012 we found the first location where we could implement our vision of a Basketball driven retail shop. It lies within a basketball facility in West Hempstead, New York., The Island Garden. It is a 53,000 square foot facility that is designed to host three basketball games, as well as individual basketball and baseball instruction simultaneously. Host to games, tournaments, camps, clinics, and much more, from adults to teens to the young child, The Island Garden serves the entire basketball community. The Island Garden arena was built in 1957. From 1969 to 1972, the 5,200 seat arena was the home of the New York Nets of the ABA and in the early 1970's rivaled The Famous Nassau Coliseum in hosting the biggest entertainment events on the island. Over the years The Island Garden has also played host to the New York Knicks, the New York Liberty, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters, and the NCAA men's basketball tournament as a practice site. Our retail space can be seen the moment you enter the facility.
The Sneaker Garden supplies reasonably priced gear for any basketball player as well as casual gear to wear outside of the facility. We make it a point to differentiate ourselves from the typical premium priced sneaker re-seller. We look to offer value, expertise and a unique shopping relationship. Our ultimate objective is to build long-term relationships with our growing consumer so we are the first and last stop for their needs. Our motto is “NO PLAYER LEFT BEHIND.”
