Toby Centers help children thrive through family focused programs as supervised visitation, reunification, counseling, co-parenting plans and mediation,
The Toby Center is the first holistic amalgam of court, therapeutic and support services for parents journeying through the complexity and overwhelming process of separation and divorce. Our work also includes professional development for those working with and in support of this population. The Center is open daily, 9-5pm. Individuals are welcome to drop in anytime for a coffee, a conversation, a visit to our multimedia resource room, to read a book, to get guidance and clarity about their situation and personal journey. We do not provide attorney services, but we can refer you to an attorney. All Center professional services including family mediation, therapy and non therapeutic guidance, visitation, legal document preparation and other support is offered to all at sliding scale. We welcome community partnerships, organization collaborations and public speaking opportunities about contemporary family issues, co-parenting, parental brainwashing and alienation, the legal process and how humor helps us cope in any situation!
The Toby Center philosophy is maintaining a trusting, and nurturing parent child relationship for both the custodial and non custodial parent.
All research demonstrates that such a relationship strengthens a child's ability to thrive academically, socially, spiritually, and physically.
Toby Center staff engage separated parents most often through the courts which may mandate supervised visitation. With compassionate and mindful staff, children and parents endure the third party intrusions with more confidence and hope for natural relationships.
As an educator and public speaker, the Toby Center founder, Dr. Roseman journeyed from his own highly conflicted divorce in 1997. He saw that advocating for recognition of PA and PAS was not enough. In his doctoral research, Dr. Roseman. a trained family court mediator, found that where tools of peacemaking could be introduced, then the likelihood of improved child outcomes could then be possible.
"What children see at home, they will do to society," said preeminent child psychiatrist Karl Menninger. Says Roseman, "If we can focus on improving the parents' state of mind and value system, then we have improved the potential for better emotional, psychological and physical outcomes for children."
The Toby Center mission is to offer multiple services for parents in order to improve outcomes for children and to prevent the escalation of conflict between parents when parents choose to separate. The Center offers the first holistic approach to family healing when parents journey through separation and divorce. Our goals are to acknowledge the plight of parents who face such a major life challenge, to helpl parents and children recognize that the process though emotionally and financially difficult is a process that has an end. The Center provides support through services, group support, consultation, and couples counseling in order to first intervene and prevent separation as a last resort. Dr. Roseman has found that it is often improved co-parenting during marriage, as well as following separation which is best for children to thrive. The Center philosophy is based on the pioneering work of emminent child psychiatrist, Karl Menninger, MD who stated that "what children see at home, they will do to society."
