I believe that everyone should have the right to a beautiful home. As a teacher and single mother with a very limited budget I have to get creative. I shop thrift stores and tag sales and friends’ homes to salvage pieces of furniture and repurpose them, giving those pieces a second life. The technique I use depends upon the piece. I refinish furniture, use milk, chalk and clay paint, and wax. I love to distress and create a chippy finish. With a lot of meticulous work, I can give new life and a new purpose to my finds. All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind. Each piece has character, a past life, and that’s what I love about them. Since my house can hold only so much and I continue to find amazing pieces, I decided to start a business to share what I make with others. I also want to share the tricks and tips in my blog that I have learned with others to inspire their own creativity.
The Turned Leg sells salvaged and repurposed furniture and home goods in the metro Detroit area. All pieces are unique. Pieces are hand painted using a variety of finishes like Deb's Design Diary DIY, Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
