Hal Gusler the proprietor of The Ugly Duckling has been part of the antique business for forty years. His first antique was acquired for him by his father who traded a mule for it. Hal has worked in major antique and vintage venues in new York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapoli, Nashville, Charleston, SC, Atlantic City and Asheville. He is also an expert craftsman as he does repair and restoration of vintage furniture and other antiques. The Ugly Duckling originally started as a shop repairing and restoring antiques and started selling antiques in Bluefield in 1988. The store reopened in historic downtown Bluefield WV in April of 2014 and is rapidly becoming the place to acquire vintage items in there area. Come in and see the great variety of items available for sale including vintage books and records. Currently a collection of over 3000 Jazz LPs is available for sale along with a rare collection of first edition books on jazz including autobiographies and jazz history.Hal still restores vintage furniture and other items.
