The University of Chicago Eating Disorders Program

About

The Eating Disorders Program at The University of Chicago Hospitals provides comprehensive outpatient services for the assessment, treatment and follow-up of adolescents and adults with eating disorders.

Description

At the Eating Disorders Program at The University of Chicago we practice evidence-based treatment. The clinic is staffed by experts in the field involved in ongoing clinical research studies and the primary focus is the treatment of eating disorders. To ensure the best possible outcome for the patient, our clinic adheres to treatments based on prior research.

Each patient, adolescent or adult, is treated by a team of physicians and therapists working together. Our approach seeks to comprehensively treat both the physical symptoms and the psychological components of the eating disorder.

For adolescent patients, we seek to incorporate the parents in treatment, because the support, encouragement and care of family is essential for recovery. Our treatment also targets the eating disorder symptoms, which are seen as separate from normal adolescent behavior.

Mission

The treatment of eating disorders in adolescents and adults.

I had my child treated for anorexia in this center. My opinion is that they are academicians, but not good practitioners. Under their care, my child's health substantially got worse and suddenly one time they cut us off and asked us to go to another center. Worse, they didn't even provide any referral and we had to wait for an opening to be accepted in the other center. The director of the program lacks practical knowledge of how to treat anorexia and the therapists are inexperienced. Their psychiatrist is terrible. I am not having anything good to say about this center.
I didn't know I had an eating disorder and other doctors thought I had anorexia but it was only here that I got properly diagnosed with ARFID and I've had great success thanks to this department! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
