A beloved century-old Shanty, reconstructed on the University of Chicago campus
The Shanty was the first structure built on the University of Chicago campus. A beloved campus landmark at the turn of the 20th century, it was a symbol of the birth of creative thought, the namesake of an alumni society, and became makeshift diner for students and professors alike.
