The University of Tulsa Institute for Bob Dylan Studies is a broadly interdisciplinary research institute based on campus and dedicated to exploring the work, life and legacy of Bob Dylan.
Launched in October 2017, the aim of The University of Tulsa Institute for Bob Dylan Studies is to amplify TU's role as stewards of The Bob Dylan Archive, to draw students and faculty into the archives, to foster world-class research, to engage with Tulsa’s rich musical culture and to attract international recognition of the university as a leader in the arts and humanities.
Among many initiatives to be developed over time, the TU Institute for Bob Dylan Studies will sponsor scholarly symposia, as well as programs directed to the general public, student assistantships, institutes for teachers, community-based initiatives and original research in the archives. The Bob Dylan Archive is a unique treasure, and along with the Bob Dylan Center to be located in the Tulsa Arts District, TU’s institute will draw international attention from scholars and students as well as from a much larger public interested in the work of one of America’s most original artists.
The University of Tulsa Institute for Bob Dylan Studies aims to support world-class scholarship and a broad exploration of Dylan’s work, life and legacy through a diverse array of public programming as well as internally and externally supported research. Our efforts include lectures, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, listening parties, digital initiatives, scholarly publications and more, all designed to capitalize on TU’s position as stewards of the Bob Dylan Archive and Tulsa’s growing reputation as a center for American Roots music.
