The Vanderpoel Art Association is a memorial collection of over 600 works of American art in honor of artist and teacher, John H. Vanderpoel.
The Vanderpoel Art Association was founded in 1914 by friends of John H. Vanderpoel, as a memorial to this celebrated instructor from Chicago's School of the Art Institute. Legendary artist Georgia O'Keefe praised him as "one of the few real teachers I have known."
The Vanderpoel Association's mission is to share this collection of 19th and 20th century art with the public; care and conservation of the collection; and community outreach through various classes and programs.
