Shrimp poor boy sandwich was unexciting: fried shrimp with large pieces of lettuce, tiny tiny pieces of tomato, and a drizzle of sauce. It was served on a hot dog roll and was not worth the price. On the other hand my partner had a hamburger with fries which was quite good and almost worth the $10.95 price. While we were the owner argued with a customer over a $4.00 difference between similar dishes. He should have just agreed with the customer and apologized. Bathrooms need some heavy duty cleaning and sprucing up. The hose to god only knows what it comes out of the wall in back of the sink and goes the ladies room sink and the broken lock have to go too. I have enjoyed this place in the past but for what they charge and given their location they need improve. Not so happy this time :.
Mixed review but some things you just can't overlook. Got to the restaurant around 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday. After being seated it took about 10 minutes before someone came over to take our drink order. About 10 minutes later only one of us had received our drink, it took nearly another 10 minutes before she came back to deliver the other drinks. After some time we realized that there was only one woman taking care of the tables in the restaurant so this is not a review about her. However the owner's wife walked at a snail's pace, and really did not help her out at all. At this point we decided to look at the reviews on here and saw many of the negative comments and became concerned. After about another 15 minutes or so they took our food order. Another 15 minutes goes by and the waitress comes out to tell me that they do not have what I ordered so I replaced it with something else. So by now I am getting a little annoyed, but then our food arrives, and it is absolutely delicious. We had the fish and chips butternut squash risotto and their own cheeseburger and hotdog. Again, this is no fault of the only waitress who was on staff but we were never asked if our food was good we were never offered refills of our coffees and sodas and everything was extremely slow. We had finished eating and we're sitting waiting for her to come by because we wanted to order dessert to go. It took nearly a half an hour before she came over to see if we needed anything else, at which point I told her we wanted to order dessert and she said it would be a few minutes. Another 10 minutes go by and we still do not have our dessert order placed and it is getting late. Finally the rest of my family decided to go and wait in the car and I stood by the counter hoping to get the owner's attention. Another 10 minutes and she finally cashed our order out and took our dessert order. Another 10 to 15 minutes go by before we get our three ice creams and one piece of carrot cake to go. The ice cream and carrot cake are absolutely delicious and highly recommended by us. So in the end if you can overlook the slow service and the lack of attention from the owner's wife then you can have a wonderful experience here. However, there is one last area of concern that I just cannot overlook. There was a large number of flies found in the bathrooms as well as the restaurant itself. They flew around our food as we ate and then I saw a few landing on the coffee machine near the front counter as well as many flying back and forth between the kitchen and the dining area. So in the end between the bad service the bug problem and overall lack of attention from anyone, this was not a very good experience. Please note that when we arrived there were only three tables that had people at them by the time we left there were around 5 tables that had people at them, so the restaurant was not overly crowded. Again this is not a reflection of the waitress who was the only one on staff. I think this is a direct reflection of the management and owners.
I'm sitting in my car in the parking lot of the Wandering Moose feeling so inspired that I need to leave a review right now. My dinner was superb. I finished the baked scrod down to the butter in the dish. The wine suggestion perfectly matched my order. The risotto was a symphony, to be matched only by the perfectly timed jokes of the owner. My family is very happy.
Great breakfast! Fresh eggs, sausage, home-made toast & perfectly cooked potatoes. Fresh blueberry muffins & apple turnovers. Small town vibe & farm country décor. Lots of friendly locals & the waitresses were awesome and friendly. Did I say we had a great breakfast?
Looks iffy from outside but the food is awesome and very reasonably priced. Nice casual atmosphere inside. Ordered a meatball parm sandwich sub, grinder, hoagie...whatever very generous sandwich with peppers and onions and the meatballs were excellent. Split the sandwich with my 13 yr old and had a Caesar salad. Perfect lunch and was not expensive. Definitely glad I decided to go in.
First the food is outstanding and that's it! The wait staff along with the owner well let's just say on my last visit the ole moose was really loose. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner but beware that if you happen to drop by during the transition from lunch to dinner you will most likely be herded into a lower class dining room or the patio so they can set up for dinner. Twice I have visited around 3:00 PM which seems like a reasonable time for me to eat but not a reasonable time for them to serve me. So unless you want to be left feeling like a second class citizen relegated to some back dining room with what ever is left over from lunch, I would recommend avoiding this establishment between 2:00 - 5:00 PM.
Short version: extremely average food and one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Full explanation, read on... We had a previously great experience here, so much so in fact that we made a long trip back for the purpose of going here specifically. Unfortunately this place has gone completely downhill. We walked in and were not greeted in anyway. We sought out an employee and asked to be sat on the patio and were angrily told by a server, who we later found out was the owner's wife, that there were no open tables and that the patio was not her section so she didn't know how long it would be. After a brief wait we took the next open table. It took an inordinately long time to be addressed by the server working the patio, clearly they were understaffed for a busy holiday weekend. Eventually the food came which was mediocre at best. The table service was atrocious. No glasses were refilled at any point despite asking the server on several occasions. At no point were we asked how the meal was or if we needed anything. After the check was dropped two drinks were refilled with the wrong beverages. As a result of the complete lack of customer service we left a low tip and a detailed written explanation as to why. As we left I tried to speak with the owner's wife and voice our frustrations but she waved us off and said she was busy, at this point the lunch rush was over and the place was mostly empty. Upon leaving the owner and chef, Steve, ran out to us as we were getting in our car and proceeded to taunt us for leaving a small tip. Here is the kicker, they even say on their menu "we welcome your comments and feedback" - obviously not. The bad food and bad service I have experienced at other places, but never have I ever been ridiculed by a cowardly chef in the parking lot for leaving negative feedback with the bill and a deservedly low tip. At that point I wasn't even upset anymore, I just felt embarrassed for him. Needless to say, we won't be returning for another visit.
We sat outside and the table umbrella kept us dry even during the light rain that came up. This is a nice area close to the covered bridge and the outside tables gave us nice views of the area. The food was good and used good components. They have special burgers and the one I ordered was good.
I have read over some of the reviews of this place and was totally surprised to hear that some people didn't like the service. My experience was totally different; the staff was friendly, attentive and very personable. The food was very good, everyone at the table was happy with what they ordered. I would definitely make the 1 1/2 drive to visit again.
Overpriced mediocre food. I ordered the Cinnamon French Toast with Real Maple Syrup...dry as piece of cardboard, the amount of syrup is determined by the cook and is just a drizzle. If you want more syrup you have to pay an additional charge. Fresh squeezed orange juice. didn't taste like such but rather from a cardboard box.
