The Washington Chorus / DC's most dynamic choral ensemble
Two time Grammy award winners
Christopher Bell, Artistic Director
Founded in 1961 The Washington Chorus is one of the foremost symphonic choruses in the nation. Noted for the superb artistry of its performances and recordings of the entire range of the choral repertoire, TWC is widely recognized as a cultural leader in the nation’s capital. A three-time nominated and two-time Grammy Award winner, the 200-voice Washington Chorus presents an annual subscription series at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, regularly performs at the invitation of the National Symphony Orchestra, and is frequently featured in other venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore in Maryland and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Virginia.
The Washington Chorus (TWC) has been performing for 58 years and we are embarking on an ambitious new education program. This year, TWC piloted the DC Honor Chorus program to host an all-district chorus event for DC Public Schools, and next year DCPS has asked TWC to expand this program and co-author the new choral curriculum for the city's school system. Our goal? To ensure there is a choral program in EVERY elementary school city-wide.
TWC's incoming Artistic Director, Christopher Bell, created and grew the National Youth Choir of Scotland, one of the UK's premiere choruses, and is ready to use that experience here in Washington. We need your help to ensure that TWC keeps singing at the highest level on the mainstage and also creates more musical opportunities for every public school student. Please join the movement and support The Washington Chorus by June 30th!
