The Winery At Holy Cross Abbey

About

The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey is nestled in the crossroads of the Wet and Rocky Mountains. Founded in 2002, the winery is now one of the largest and most medal awarded wineries in Colorado.

Description

The tasting room at The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey is in an Arts and Craftsmen cottage that was built by P. H. Troutman of Denver, Colorado, in 1911. The sweeping arches and post and beam structure are fabulous examples of this architecture. The winery produces 14 wines, 10 of which are complimentary to taste. Linens from Provence, pottery from Spain, Tunisia, Portugal and France, and a vast array of food, wine and travel books are just a sampling of the beautiful items sold in the tasting room.

Loved doing the VIP tasting here we were able to try almost all of the wines one was already gone gone and they were all very good, the meat and cheese platter is actually plenty of food the two of us hadn’t eaten lunch yet and we’re definitely not hungry after. The grounds are wonderful and the ambiance pairs well. 10/10 would recommend
We didn't make a reservation here, but were seated fairly quickly on the patio. We requested to do a wine tasting and although the lady that helped us was nice, it took over an hour to sample 12 wines. She brought out 3 bottles to sample at a time, but then went back inside for 15-20 minutes to chat with her co-workers before coming back outside with the next 3 tastings. That makes sense if you're poured a full glass of wine for time to enjoy it, but it doesn't take 20 minutes to take 3 sips of wine! We were talking with the 2 guys at the table sitting next to us who were also wondering why they don't just do the tasting inside at the counter like most other wineries do - unless you request to sit outside? There was only 2 other customers there while we were. It's like we were all seated outside together on the chilly patio intentionally so that we wouldn't interrupt their conversation inside. My wife and I have done tastings at over 100 wineries, and it's never taken over an hour to do a tasting - even during peak hours. We generally do a tasting, then buy a bottle of our favorite wine off the list to sit and enjoy for awhile. Even though this was an unusual experience, we did enjoy the Colorado Divinity very much and purchased a few bottles to take with us. We just wouldn't recommend you going here if you're on a timeline or have other scheduled stops on your agenda for the day.
Stopped here on our way out of town after a day of hiking. So glad we drove by and saw the Abbey! The scenery is gorgeous, and so nice to sit on their patio and enjoy some wine. We each bought a few bottles, I bought one of the Norton and the Sav Blanc. I was seriously impressed with the Norton, I don’t enjoy red wine. The sweet wines were well done, I just don’t like sweet wine in general. The staff was so knowledgeable, recalling all the details of how each wine was made. They were also all very friendly and kind, really capping off a wonderful experience. Overall, will be stopping here on my next time in town!
Love the atmosphere, service and of course the wine! My favorite place in the state of Colorado to buy wine for myself and bring home as gifts for friends!!
We love love love the wine tasting! Tara was our hostess and took her time to explain everything to us and to teach us about the wines. Not only that, she took time to explain the history of the whole place to us. As far as "covid" goes, you can feel safe here as all interactions inside the store are socially distanced and the wine tasting itself is done outside on the patio. If you come in cooler weather, they also have patio heaters. This is a "must do"!!
Very nice atmosphere for outdoor wine tasting. A tasting fee of $8 to try 12 wines. Wines also sold by the glass. Good wines, great friendly service. I won't rate wines because it is such a personal taste thing. You should visit and try for yourself. A good vendor was on site during my visit serving pizza.
Was able to go outside and get a flight quickly. Enjoyed the sweet flight. Lots of grape juice notes and just yummy flavors. My husband and I were able to grab a spot and enjoy. We didn't make reservations or anything.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Wr had a lovely visit! Saw this on the way to the Royal Gorge Train ride and decided to visit after. SOOOOO worth it. So enjoyed sitting on the options with a wine flight. The charcuterie board was amazing! Best I've ever had! Amazing value, as those things go. We had a ton to take home! We did a wine flight in the train. Turned out it was their wine. LOVED the riesling! On my tasting I really enjoyed the Astrologist and the Alchemist. Staff is friendly and such a lovely relaxing environment.
Wow! What a gem this place is. So much charm and local flair here. The lady at the bar let us sample their wines, which were all really tasty. We ended up leaving with 6 bottles and plan to have them ship us some more! They really have a passion for their wine, which you can taste in each glass! They also have their local community help supply the grapes for their name on the bottle. It wss my first winery experience and I couldn't imagine it having gone any better
Beautiful tasting grounds. The winery is not an Abby itself, it's next to the Abby and they are separate businesses, but if it's open you can visit the Abby next door because it is open to the public. The wine at the winery was good, I still prefer a good pacific northwest wine over Colorado wine, but it was fun to do the flights and the giftshop was cute.
