Thornton Elementary School in Temple Independent School District
Thornton Elementary School was formed in 1960 when the estate of Ms. Sarah Thornton donated part of her ranch land to build a school adjacent to the new neighborhood. Currently, the new Thornton serves about 740 diverse students from south Temple. Our programs include music, art, robotics, choir, Bilingual, Gifted and Talented education, Special Education, two after school programs and a strong Parent Teacher Organization. We feed into all three middle schools (Travis Science Academy, Bonham and Lamar Middle Schools). We are proud to be Thunderbirds!
