Tiger Stadium

Description

Tiger Stadium, previously known as Navin Field and Briggs Stadium, was a baseball park located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. It hosted the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball from 1912 to 1999, as well as the Detroit Lions of the National Football League from 1938 to 1974. It was declared a State of Michigan Historic Site in 1975 and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1989. The stadium was nicknamed "The Corner" for its location on Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Avenue. The last Detroit Tigers game at the stadium was held in September 1999. In the decade after the Tigers vacated the stadium, several rejected redevelopment and preservation efforts finally gave way to demolition. The stadium's demolition was completed on September 21, 2009, though the stadium's actual playing field remains at the corner where the stadium once stood. Since the spring of 2010, a volunteer group known as the Navin Field Grounds Crew (composed of Tiger Stadium fans, preservationists, and Corktown residents) has restored and maintained the field.A plan to redevelop the old Tiger Stadium site would retain the historic playing field for youth sports and ring the 10-acre property with new development has received final approval, and funding.HistoryOriginsIn 1895, Detroit Tigers owner George Vanderbeck had a new ballpark built at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull avenues. That stadium was called Bennett Park and featured a wooden grandstand with a wooden peaked roof in the outfield. At the time, some places in the outfield were only marked off with rope.

Had a great family night out! The Tigers didn't win, but it was a fun game anyway! Even if you aren't that into baseball, it is a great place to go for the food, activities for the children and great atmosphere! They do have a purse/backpack and diaper bag rule now, so be aware of that. You can't bring in purses or bags over a certain size, but they do offer complimentary bag check! I gave them my bag, and they took my name and phone number and gave me a ticket to bring back to retrieve my bag after the game. You can go pick it up at any time, of course, and you have up to 30 minutes to go get it once the game is over. It was a very efficient and smooth process! In all, it was a great evening and game. The food is always great and there is always something for everyone, just make sure you bring enough money. It's by no means super expensive, but not super cheap either. You do get what you pay for by way of quantity and quality, so that is a plus! In all, I can't wait to go back!
This was my first visit to Comerica park and it was a really nice stadium. I did not explore a lot of the concessions or anything, but from what I saw there were many food and drink options. The seating was nice as it wasn't as steep as some stadiums are in terms of the layout. Nice skyline views when looking to the outfield.
Fantastic views of the city can take your eyes off the game at times. One of the best baseball venues in the country. Even with multiple events close by and on a weekend night plenty of parking was available with a short walk. Detroit has never been better so take in a game and spend time in the city to eat snd shop.
Great atmosphere at this park was my. Buddies favourite of the 3 we visited this trip. Parking was cheap and easy... Leaving not so much. Food and vendor options were cool - and you could see Ford Field which was neat. Nice view from where we were sitting. Overall great time.
Comerica Park is so far the best baseball field I have been to. They have so many great food options including the classics like hot dogs and sausages, along with fair food like corn dogs and elephant ears, and others like tacos, nachos, pizza, ice cream, and more. There were a lot of people there but I never felt crowded. The seats have a lot of space around them. It was a very fun and comfortable experience. Got to stay for Friday night fireworks and there was such a fun and exciting vibe as they were getting ready for a decently long show!
Overall, it was a very nice park. The people were all friendly and parking/traffic was nothing like Chicago. We got there early so we were able to enjoy some happy hour $5 beers and a $5 Mac n Cheese! The best part of it all, was that we got to see my Cubbies get a W!!! Let's go Cubs!!!
The people were so nice. We had seats behind home plate and the people who were fans were even nice. The Tiger was so patient with kids and made it special for them. His handler was also very kind and professional. In the pro shop, they made me a custom jersey and shipped it to me at my home in Florida. I feel like they really went out of their way to make me feel special. It's hard being a Tigers fan in Florida.
This used to be my favorite place to go. But this time before it's great, it's actually uncool. We booked our tickets online, we got in, - but were not able to go to our seats. Understandable, - it was raining and the game was delayed. Everyone needed to be undercover because of lightning and heavy rain. Once you're inside the venue you can't re-enter. Very much of a downside if you have kids. Often you forget something in the car girlfriends or kids phone, or you need to medicate. Also smokers have to survive without smoking for several hours. The smoking section has been permanently closed They will not accommodate the customer, won't create a smoking section or even let people re-enter after they like to smoke outside. We spent for 2 of us close to 1k for for just this day, including tickets, parking, food, drinks and updated fan attire - we like to support, The drinks are expensive....... You can buy for sure a 12pack for the price of one beer here, - a water bottle is half the price, impressively similar is a cocktail ..... After all, we'll not be back unless we get invited - but even then I'll warn my friends about the smoking
We’ve visited over 25 MLB parks and this is by far one of my favorite. Smart concourse design makes it easy to get anywhere in the park, and everything is open. Great views from anywhere and the Tiger Den concept is brilliant. More stadiums should replicate this old style box seat concept. It was so great to watch the game and not be constantly interrupted by people needing to get up and around you. The attention to detail incorporating tiger themed everything into the architecture and signage adds to the character and fan experience. It is a cash-less park which is never heard of. They have machines to turn your cash into gift cards you can use at the park if needed. And if you want Michigan Craft Beer head to the vendor behind 104. Would definitely come back here for a game in the future.
Really disappointed with your English ID policy, 1 star due to this. That's not the way to grow the game of baseball, and think this is insane in 2023. While the MLB is pushing for more international and diverse exposure, you don't take non-english ID? Simply have a cheat sheet for staff. This is even more disappointing given I'm an English first language individual. Change it. Your ballpark uses the majority of screens for ads instead of having a much better baseball experience with more information about the game displayed around the park. The 200L banner should be swapped with the 300L banner to have more stats and information about the game. Cool carousel.
