Tilles Park

Description

Tilles Park is an urban park, owned and operated by St. Louis County, Missouri, in the western St. Louis suburb of Ladue. The park's full original name is the Rosalie Tilles Memorial Park, in dedication to the mother of park founder Cap Tilles. The park is located at Litzsinger Road and McKnight Road.History1932–1957In 1932, business magnate and philanthropist, Cap A. Tilles, donated land to the City of St. Louis for the purpose of converting the property into a municipal park. The park facilities were constructed by the Works Progress Administration, beginning in 1938. By World War II, the first phase of the park was completed.1957–presentIn March 1955, the Mayor and the Comptroller were authorized to sell Tilles Park. A statistical survey of the park was commissioned by the city, revealing the location of the park made the site more popular among county residents than city dwellers. The study found that more than 80 per cent of the people who used the park lived in the county. Another study showed that the city needed more open park space for its citizens. As a result, in 1956 the City of St. Louis decided to sell the park to developers. However, the St. Louis County Council stepped into the process. On April 17, 1957, in a 4–3 vote, the Republican members of the council voted to save the park from destruction, agreeing to pay $429,625 for the park. St. Louis then created a new Rosalie Tilles Memorial Park within the city limits, at

Every year the Winter Wonderland lights are one out favorite holiday traditions that we must visit! This year, BEST yet! They were amazing!! We love the ability to drive through with our little one and watching all the lights twinkle. Its a 20-30 minute drive and the neighborhoods nearby also have fantastic lights as well. It’s awesome to see and the detail and it gets better each year! $15 for a car and you have the option to walk or do horse and carriage rides!
Wonderful place to visit. The playground is great, grounds are well-kept, & there are a few geocaches. Love it all year. The Christmas lights are quite a treat, even if a long-wait. Definitely worth a visit. Horse-drawn carriages in the winter are a very fun experience.
Small county park which is popular for short walks, runs and rides. There's a playground, so there are often many young families in the summer. There are also picnic areas and a ball field so it can get crowded between memorial day and labor day. But it's still fairly peaceful
Most go to place to see Holiday Lights. I can’t stress much on this. Please spend $15 per car and go see lights in this park. three words for it Awesome Awesome Awesome
Beautiful setting and easy access, simply stated. Very much worth the visit. Parking was simple and it's a great family idea. 5
The whole family went through the winter wonderland lights. It was very pretty. They did an amazing job
Beautiful Christmas light display. Well worth the sometimes-long line to get in the park. Great for a date night or to bring young kids. Will return next year!
There was some good displays. The 12 days of christmas was creative. Some had lights out and the big trees looked like the lights were just thrown with no design. Overall it was a nice ride with the family.
All the Christmas lights are so beautiful. I loved the horse drawn carriage. We go every year. It's a must see attraction.
Always a fun time especially at Christmas when they have the whole park decked out with lights. Carriage rides and cars go through the park. The cars pull over to the right to have the horse drawn carriage rides pass them. It's nice hearing their hooves as they go by. Saint Louis tradition. Always a good time.
