If you’re looking for a super tasty, fresh food Mexican restaurant with fantastic service, this is it! Great place for our Birthday Brunch meal with family this Sunday morning. Great food. Reasonable prices. Wonderful people & service! Our go-to now!
The service is always great: fast and friendly. The chilaquiles are my favorite in town. Trust me, I grew up in Mexico City and the people at Tiztal know what they’re doing. The place is small and they don’t take reservations. So there is usually a wait. They will take your number and call you when your table is ready! Vegetarian options: They have plenty of egg dish options without any meat. They also have fruit smoothies.
Bottom line: Delicious food. Reasonable prices. No reason not to wander into this hidden gem. Very unassuming from the outside, but the restaurant serves up dishes bursting with flavor. There wasn't a weak point on the menu and I look forward to trying many more.
After having lived in the central area of Mexico for 10 years and eating out almost every day, we came back to Chicago and were not too happy with the quality of Mexican food and restaurants here. Today we visited Tiztal Cafe and were pleasantly surprised with the flavors and choices of food. The chilaquiles were as close as you can get to a Mexican home cooked meal and the milkshakes and smoothies reminded us of the ones I had in Mexico. We will be visiting Tiztal cafe as often as possible, it sure brought memories back of some of our favorite places in Mexico. Well done!
The hype over the Chilaquiles is real. This little Cafe is amazing. The service is top notch, and the food is delicious. Price is a bit high, $75 for two including tip, but worth it. The salsa Verde was tangy and done perfectly. The house made chip were light and crispy. The chorizo was flavorful, but not greasy like it is elsewhere. The Mexican Hot chocolate was perfect. We got a Smoothie and Oatmeal shake to go... it is what they started on... and they were very good. Highly recommend. On Sunday at 10am, we experienced less than a 30 min wait. Small cozy diner with home cooked meals. Their shakes are delicious and made with fresh fruit. With the weather change my biggest suggestion is to get yourself a hot chocolate, takes a little while to make ; it's made to order. But well worth it! Food portions are generous, and I usually always have a little bit extra to take home. Kid-friendliness: Kid menu, family eating
This place is a perfect example why Chicago is such a special food city. Tucked in unassuming storefronts in every neighborhood, in many examples every block, you can stumble upon gems like this. While relatively simple and classic menu wise - everything is executed perfectly. The potatoes are perfectly crisp, the sauces clearly freshly made and prepared in house, etc. Their juicer and resulting fresh fruit juices are a real treat to pair with your meal too. I will absolutely be back!
Delicious!! 10/10 recommend! I had the chorizo and eggs chilaquiles and they were phenomenal. I also had a blueberry banana carrot juice smoothie - it was so fresh and tasty! Just pure fruit and juice. If I lived in town, I would come here all the time! Definitely will be back next time I'm in Chicago!Food: 5/5
Hidden Gem in Uptown/Andersonville, this place runs like a well-oiled machine. Service was prompt and courteous. The menu options were plentiful, and there's something for everyone, as the menu specifically allows for modifications to some of their breakfast dishes. My companion had the quesadillas with a very large glass of fresh squeezed/pressed OJ, they enjoyed both! I had the Chorizo Chilaquiles, and it was amazing. The ratio of cheese:chips:sauce was perfect, and they offered the option to prepare the chorizo blended with or without the eggs. It was a nice touch to offer both, but I went with the chorizo blended with the egg, as is more traditional. The chorizo/egg was low in oil and rich in flavor, perfectly seasoned. To drink, I had the Avena style oatmeal smoothie. It was excellent, and the sweetness paired well with the salty/savory breakfast! You must come to Tiztal, and I will definitely be back!
Love this neighborhood gem! Service is wonderful and the food is excellent. The chilaquiles and oatmeal shake are outstanding. The venue is always considerate as we bring our kids along and have a small treat provided to them as soon as we sit down. They also have a lovely outdoor patio in the summerFood: 5/5
