Toledo Public Schools Aviation Center

About

We are a High School Aviation Program offering students an opportunity to graduate with their Federal Aviation Administration issued Airframe and Powerplant Rating.

Description

Although we are a High School Program, we are an FAA Part 147 Certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School.
While we are a Toledo Public Schools Program, it is open to ALL state of Ohio High School Students. And the cost is FREE!
Our Program is challenging. It is a 3 year program with each year focusing on a different part of the FAA Airframe & Powerplant Rating (A&P) which is the FAA issues to our students who fulfill the requirements upon completion of their Senior year of High School. Students begin this program their Sophomore year in High School. Juniors are able to enroll as well, but their are some stipulations that apply. An Instructor can explain these.

Our Sophomores or first year Students work toward their General Rating. Mathematics, Physics, Aerodynamics, FAA Regulations, Weight and Balance and Ground Handling are a few of the many topics covered this first year.

Their Junior Year, the Airframe portion of the rating is covered. In addition to the classroom, students get countless hours of hands on practical experience. They will be designing and constructing sheet metal projects, learning the art of airframe construction and in depth maintenance, inspections and repairs to actual flying aircraft.

Seniors finish up their last year in our school working toward the Powerplant part of the rating. They will learn about, disassemble, inspect and rebuild numerous aircraft engines, both reciprocating and turbine. They learn about all the components and parts that make these engines run. And, once build, they put these engines in test stands and run them!

This are just a small description of what these students benefit from this program. In addition to their High School Diploma, the also earn their FAA Issued A&P License, up to 60 college credits, and some even graduate with their Associates Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology from Eastern Mexico University!
