We've been customers for 35+ years and have resisted the move to an on-line bank despite their superior products because of the availability of the Tompkins Trust branch system and it's excellent local customer service. In recent years this hallmark of the system has deteriorated to the point where I think we'll finally make the move. Wait times at the drive thru and in the teller lines have become ridiculous. This morning I waited for almost 15 minutes at the front of the in-person teller line to make a large cash deposit. There were two tellers behind the counter and one customer at the counter. One of the tellers was busy doing some kind of data entry and wasn't taking customers, the other the one with the customer was having lots of trouble getting her printer to work and kept trying the same thing over and over with the same result. The customer at the counter kept looking around at me and rolling her eyes. The branch manager and two other staff members were chatting in the lobby area, oblivious of what was going on with the customers. Meanwhile, after a long wait, I finally decided to leave so I wouldn't be late for an appointment.
They tellers there are really nice. The general pace of it all is slower, but i never seem to have to wait in line... unlike the ones in Ithaca. >>and to the dude that posted before me. No where on coins does it read " legal tender for all debts public and private." Cause its not. Granted, I'm sure there's no reason for the chick to give you gruff. But this is the internet man.. gotta know this stuff.
I love the Trust Company. I do all my banking there for home, business and an apartment building I own. I have my insurance there as well. It's convenient, tellers are great. I've never had a problem.
A persistently rude, condescending teller convinced me to take my business elsewhere.
Friendly hometown bank, great personal service!
