I offer therapy services for couples and individuals around issues related to dating, sex, feelings, relationship, and communication. I am an AACAST certified Couples and Sex Therapist.
People come into therapy for a variety of reasons. Often it is the desire to change, or to understand; sometimes it is to alleviate emotional pain, and sometimes it is simply the need to be listened to. My job can be multi-faceted, but all work is dependent on having safety and trust present in the therapy room. From this state, much can be revealed. I wanted to become a therapist because I am curious why we do the things we do, and why we often do things that hurt us and hurt others. I help clients develop their own curiosity. I assist in their search for meaning, helping guide them to make choices that better serve their goals and desires. My work with clients is a joint creative process, and the project is them!
I am a certified Couples and Sex Therapy through AACAST, having studied at UCLA under Dr. Walter Brakelmanns. This training has given me the tools to help couples (and individuals) with how to communicate feelings about what bothers them without resorting to criticism or defensiveness. It works.
I am an active therapist, listening for places to ask questions that can lead to an understanding of what may be keeping you from getting from where you are to where you want to be. I utilize postmodern ideas in a collaborative process that "deconstructs" beliefs and put you in a position to decide what is of value to you and what you would like to let go of. Therapy occurs through open dialogue. Please visit my website for current session rates and more information.
I received my Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, where I completed a specialization in Child Studies. I recently completed a five year internship at Southern California Counseling Center, where I saw individuals, couples and families, and received training in multiple modalities. As part of the school program, I spent two years counseling at Fairfax High, working with students who were either self-referred or mandated. I twice co-led a group for young people called The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children. Before landing at SCCC I interned for a year at the YMCA Counseling Center, seeing adolescents at Le Conte Middle School.
I am a member of the professional organizations CAMFT, LA CAMFT, and AACAST. MFC#81839
