Small, comfortable, homey neighborhood library tucked behind Hoffmantown Center on Menaul and Twisters/Hobby Proz on Wyoming NE. Or it used to be. As of July '23 maybe ¼ of the seating and a full room perhaps 20% overall of the books had been removed for renovation that also took out both of Hillerman's small meeting rooms. Even comfortable easy chairs & a seating area were got rid of in the children's section, which is nowhere near the renovation. It's unclear what the point is of the remodeling, and/or which of the things excised will come back in what form, or to what extent. Nothing is posted about it and there's nothing findable online explaining it. My rating would be a star higher if the setbacks & degradations in Hillerman Lib's features had any prognosis for correction or restoration. It used to be super nice to be able to take your reading outside to shady benches in the surrounding Albuquerque Rose Garden, but even that experience isn't what it was. The vegetation has been so overzealously cut back the hilarious family of roadrunners that used to live in the trellises, & other urban wildlife, have also been pruned.
It's a nice library with a small rose garden by the Parking
Such a wonderful little neighborhood library. Librarians are helpful and kind, the selection is varied, and the place always feels clean. Adjacent to the beautiful rose garden, worth a stroll through the roses and then go on in to pick out a book.
This is an excellent Albuquerque Public Library. The staff was professional and friendly. I came here to renew my library card. The process was fast and efficient. I am now able to read e-books on my electronic devices. The library itself was clean and not crowded.
Facility, location, personnel, all good. Problem: Overrun by homeless folks. Librarians are not caregivers. I’ve reached my tolerance level. I’ll not visit this library again…and…will move to another area not beset by homeless.
Love that there’s a whole kids area separate from main area. Ms. Celeste has a great Storytime on Fridays but Saturdays are chaos. Some parents let their kids run and scream like it’s a playground. The Saturday Storytime leader doesn’t set boundaries for the kids or parents parents ask your kids to sit with you, quiet voices in library, no running, etc. so it’s completely unenjoyable. It’s advertised at 0-6 years but the activities are often inappropriate for 0-2 year olds and the books are long and detailed for a large group setting. Wish the enclosed outdoor area with grass was available to use but it’s emergency exit only.
Beautiful rose garden and well kept lot of things for children to do. Great selection for kids. The kids computer had programs for the kids. However no headphones available so bring your own.
First I want to say I have loved going to this library since I was a young girl. My grandma would bring my sister and I. I really enjoy that it is not far for me to get to. The Rose garden is beautiful. The homeless who hang out there are not jerks and stay to themselves. My favorite location.
Nice library and staff friendly and helpful. Thank you!
This is an absolutely beautiful library. I love the wonderful rose garden, and they have an enormous selection of books in all genres. The place is incredibly clean and the staff are very friendly.
