About Tonya Girard, LMFT:
As a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), I think about systems. I take a person-centered and solution-focused perspective to health care that is concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families/natural support systems.
I am an active member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and serve as the treasurer of our local MFT chapter.
I am a creative individual who implements creative perspectives to problem solving. Increased personal awareness, mindfulness and balance are underlying principles of the work that I do with my clients.
I also have a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Alfred University School of Art & Design. While training at Alfred I focused on oil painting, neon/lighting design, glass blowing and print making. Before becoming an MFT I worked as a Graphic Designer for an International company where I designed products, product packaging, marketing and promotional materials.

communication, sexuality/intimacy/infidelity, managing household responsibilities, spirituality, co-parenting, life-cycle transitions including welcoming a new child, grief, divorce
Families often experience increased levels of distress during times of transition such as the birth of a child, the loss of someone special, children 'leaving the nest,' career changes, and divorce. Often times these transitions bring with them behavioral concerns, increased anxiety or depression. I am experienced with family systems, and will work with you and your family to increase the understanding between members and work toward shared goals.
