Eagle Rock has a beautiful view and is a fun hike with a few routes to get to it. I hiked up from Penny Rd, and parked my car halfway between the trail access point and Topanga Canyon Rd. It was just under 2 miles to get to Eagle Rock, with about 1,000 ft in elevation gain. I'm not sure why it is called Eagle Rock, but I will have to come back and see if I can figure it out. The view from the top of the rock is breathtaking, just be very careful near the edge as it is quite a drop. The marine layer was coming in on a Thursday evening, however you can usually see the ocean from here. There's also a nicely placed bench to just relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere!
The best hike I did while staying in LA. Starting at Trippet Ranch, it's about 5.5 to 6 miles total there and back. The views at the top are stunning. It's a strenuous hike, especially in the heat. Bring lots of water!
Beautiful place, gorgeous rocks formation, I was surprised there is no graffiti the place is very clean I think because is kind of hot , the instagrammers doesn't go there, Beautiful rock and the views, is amazing, the places needs to be clean around of some rocks because the brushes are covering.
I started at the parking next to GreenLeaf Canyon, then headed up to Eagle Rock. It took my 4 hours in total to go back and fourth but it was all worth it. The drive going to Topanga State Park left me speech as it was driving around the mountain as you got higher you got to see the whole city around you. During my hike i came across many friendly people. Most of the trail is rocky! I suggest bringing good hiking shoes or boots. There is alot of incline scaling Eagle Rock. Unfortunately the whole mountain was burned by the fire but it still was a scene unforgettable
Nice small hike not difficult, it is flat terrain with moderate uphill. There is a parking lot that opens at 8am but gets full very fast. My friends and I arrived around 7am and found parking space on the street, it was very safe.
I completely ignored all the recommendations that say to park at Trippet Ranch parking lot so I ended up following my Google and Apple Maps, which led me to some private driveways on Hillside Road. There was an access point but you end up parking near some houses. As of the hike, for those that can’t go during the week and get there on a Saturday, you need to get there early before 9:30am to beat the crowds and the heat. It is all uphill to Eagle Rock and this hike is POPULAR. Single file narrow trails during COVID is not the place for crowds. Many people were really good about wearing masks . You’ll reach a central point at the top that points to Eagle Rock. The path on the left will take you above the rock which gives you the best view. I did find there were a lot of flies on the Musch trail and at the top, so take some good bug spray to avoid being completely bothered by buzzing sounds. When you’re at the top, there is a small cave you can sit in and enjoy the view. It’s big enough for 2/3 people and it’s usually occupied. I sat in it for about 10min before letting other people enjoy it, but I highly recommend waiting for it! Snakes are definitely around so stay on the path and be aware of your surroundings. It’s a great hike and a nice workout. Enjoy
One of my favorite treks in the Santa Monica's @ around 7 miles r/t from Marvin Braude. For an extra challenge, I normally turn right at Hub Junction and head down past Temescal Peak towards the bay. Skull Rock is a great turn around point and total r/t distance is about 14 miles
This is a pretty good hike if you start from La 96 Tru-Tech my Holland to little Temescal to HUB Junction from her Junction to Eagle Rock Eagle Rock Topanga rest up and come all the way back a lot of nice scenery everything is out there is nice and green
Great spot to visit in Topanga State Park. Has recently been burned out - so presents an other-worldly vista. A few ways to get there - from the Hub or Trippet Ranch.
