The Topeka Rescue Mission is a non-denominational Christian organization dedicated to helping the homeless by providing emergency shelter, meals, clothing and other needed items, programs, and services, to homeless men, women, and families, as well as providing food and other necessities to the needy.
The following services are provided by the Topeka Rescue Mission (TRM):
1) HOMELESS SHELTER: TRM provides emergency shelter and long-term (1-year) residential training programming for homeless men, women and families. A total of 1,922 unduplicated individuals were sheltered in Calendar Year 2009. This includes: 1,044 Men, 542 women, and 336 children.
2) FOOD SERVICES: MEALS are provided 3x/day to individuals and families in need through the Topeka Rescue Mission's Kitchen/Dining area located at the Main Mission Building. FOOD BASKETS are provided to people in need from the community through the Mission's Distribution Center located at 401 NW Norris Avenue, Topeka, KS 66608. In Calendar Year 2009, a total of 213,894 MEALS were served to shelter guests and individuals/families from the community. An additional 260,598 meals were provided through the distribution of FOOD BASKETS to individuals/families in the community.
3) CLOTHING BANK: Free clothing is distributed to shelter guests as well as individuals/families in the community who are in need through the Topeka Rescue Mission Clothing Bank. A total of 40,626 articles of clothing were distributed to 2,257 unduplicated individuals in Calendar Year 2009.
4) MEDICAL SERVICES: Medical Services including clinic visits and assistance with dental, eye and prescriptions are offered to guests of the Mission and homeless individuals from the community. A total of 1,186 occurrences of medical help assisted homeless individuals in Calendar Year 2009.
5) TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE: Transportation Vouchers are distributed to assist shelter guests and homeless individuals with bus tickets and cab fare. A total of 7,615 transportation vouchers were distributed to homeless individuals in Calendar Year 2009.
6) HOUSEHOLD ASSISTANCE: Household Assistance is offered to individuals/families in need from the community in the area of appliances, furniture and other household items. A total of 7,898 beds, appliances, furniture items and household items were distributed to 4,554 unduplicated individuals in Calendar Year 2009.
