No comment on this Veteran's hospital. This place has put me through a lot. Everyone has their own experience. This place changed my life in such a way. I'm still trying to bounce back.
The staff are almost always friendly and very professional, but sometimes they are a little in impersonable, probably because of all the time/stuff that they're having to do on the computer during the visit.
Update... I visited the ER here today again due to a fall. The nurse today was super kind. Adding a star. ........... OLD POST I was sent here per instructions from my regular doctor. I didn't want to go, but she insisted that we make sure nothing serious was happening, and to do that she needed me to get scans done. The ER doctor was very kind and thorough. However, I explained to my nurse that I had been in so much pain the night before that I almost passed out. I could hear her and the other nurses laughing about me saying that. I didn't find it funny in the least. Bedside manner just isn't the same these days, I guess.
It is difficult to imagine how this experience could have been any worse. Four months ago my father was told he needed outpatient physical therapy. Countless calls later and we're no closer to getting this arranged. It is mind-boggling that this is how a veteran of two wars gets treated in this country.
The VA offers Vets an abundance of care. The unfortunate truth is, it is not always the highest quality of care. In my opinion, it is impersonal and often indifferent. You are rarely greeted warmly by clerks. It usually seems like you are a bother.
Some of the finest people in healthcare and dental work here. Being treated with kindness and compassion often at a time when one needs it most, in addition to good medicine, is truly a critical philosophy of essential and holistic care that the VA seems to get right just about everywhere I go; and is often a philosophy lost on most of the large healthcare groups/corporations I've been to in the community. With the VA always being significantly underfunded, the staff have really found a way to best compensate for their patients. To all the wonderful people who have cared for me at the VAMC in Topeka, and the VA clinic in Junction City - I truly appreciate you! I only wish you all were justly compensated for all the wonderful work you do and compassion you give.
Amazing staff! I can’t speak for everybody and their experiences. The nurses and Doc that nurtured and took good care of me when I went in for my iron infusion operation due to medical oral complications, took really good care of me. Mind you, I drove all the way from the Fort Riley area and didn’t even stop for lunch, but the little gesture to order me a sandwich from the cafeteria spoke volume to me. There are good people in this world indeed. Thank you health care personnel for all that you do on a daily basis.
The Topeka VA has provided me with quality care when I've needed it. Overall the staff genuinely care and want to help in any way possible if given the chance. Their behavioral health team is top notch and they will walk a million miles with you if that's what you need. I can't thank everyone at the PWRP and acute units enough for their compassion and willingness to meet me where I was and help me get on track for where I want to be. Thank you for your life-changing commitment.
It hasn't always been good...it has gotten better
I can’t get community care to answer the phone about an appointment for an colonoscopy. The screening test came back and I need a colonoscopy. My doctors nurse won’t help and they won’t answer the phone. I have to go wounded warriors and my own insurance. It’s sad we were priority. Now they want us out of there way. The colonoscopy could save me life. But they don’t care and I can’t get help from va.
