Tops for Shoes was started back in 1952 by Loius and Sylvia Resnikoff. Tops remains a local family-run business and continues to provide Western North Carolina with the greatest selection of shoes in the Southeast.

Locally owned and operated, independent shoe store. I’ve been shopping at Tops for over 20 years. They have a great selection of children’s shoes and a men’s department. I stopped in for a pair of sandals and walked out with 4!! Seriously irresistible and comfortable sandals. The staff warm and friendly and attentive to my needs. I LOVE Tops!!!
The store is deceptively large taking up a block in downtown Asheville. There were some great sales going on. I found the sandals I had been looking at online, in the size and color I wanted to try - and they were discounted over the online prices. Great customer service, friendly, helpful staff. My husband even found some new sneakers on sale too!
I’ve been shopping at Tops for years, and have always had wonderful experiences! Most recently, I called to check their inventory on a certain sandal and Dean went above and beyond for me. When I told him I’d be by in about 20 minutes he said he’d leave them up front for me with my name on them. Great customer service, incredible knowledge of shoes, and true shoe salesmen that you no longer get in most stores anymore!
Beat Shoe Store Ever. I have extremely difficult feet to find shoes that fit and are comfortable. Tops never disappoints. Their selection is the best and Autumn was willing to keep going back for more shoes over and over again all with a smile and we’re gonna find your shoe attitude.
We used to love to shop here when we lived in Asheville. I think all my kid's shoes came from here when they were younger. I was eager to visit it again, but while the shoe selection is still great, I wandered around for some time without one person offering sales assistance. This happened on two occasions, so I'm not sure if was just an off-day. The husband did find a nice pair of Hoyas on sale though. It was totally self- service.
Nice selection of shoes. I waited ten minutes to get some help and left without trying anything. Lots of people working there so in theory it should happen better. It’s frustrating to have to beg just to buy some shoes.
This was my first time ever going here to purchase shoes and I wish I wouldn't have waited 8 years. David, Amanda, and Jason took such good care of me and my daughter! If you are looking for knowledgeable, friendly customer service, go to this store to be taken care of. Thank you guys so very much for the best shoe buying experience I've ever had! We'll see you guys soon.
We visited for athletic sneakers, everyone was so helpful and the selection was huge. I have had multiple leg surgeries and my physical trainer recommended that I visit a running store. Larry spent so much time with us. He’s been doing this for over 40 years. Highly recommend
My wife and I stopped in this morning because my wife needed a pair of…well…shoes! Not only does this place have an amazing selection, the staff is incredible! We were lucky enough to have Denise helping us. My wife had a dry throat and when Denise saw her having a slight cough, she grabbed her a bottle of water as she was grabbing my wife’s shoes to try on. I mean…c’mon…that’s GREAT customer service. You want to compete with Amazon? Hire people like Denise and pay them what they’re worth! Great store! Great people! Thank you!!!
Amazing buying experience with Craig who was SO nice and helpful and fully explained everything about the shoes I got. I ended up getting Hoka’s and I absolutely love them. 1000/10 experience
