We took the Destrehan & Houmas House With Lunch Tour with Tours by Isabelle, and it was the best decision we made on our New Orleans trip. Our guide Giselle was awesome, she picked us up on time, and the transport was super comfortable - I usually get car sick, but I was totally fine. From the get-go, we felt so fortunate to get Giselle, and she was so friendly, welcoming, and funny! We were entertained throughout as she provided interesting facts about not only the plantations but New Orleans too - she is super knowledgeable, she answered all our questions, and paced the tour really well, we never felt rushed, and was very accommodating. We were quite fortunate to have a super small group - only 4 of us, it felt like a private tour! We also loved this tour because we were able to contrast two different plantations types, and admittedly we were also drawn to the tour by the included lunch, which was a nice spread of local food like gumbo, catfish, and bread pudding, all were delicious, don't skip on the bread pudding! Even though we didn't opt for the added Swamp tour, we did get to see some gators on the way as we were driving past the swamps! Overall, the tour was really worth it as we got to absorb all the stories and history of the plantations and New Orleans in general without worrying about the logistics of getting there, timing our arrival for tour sessions, finding lunch - honestly, it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
It was a phantastic, unvorgetable and perfekt organised day. I enoyed everything!!! I want to say thank you for this fantastic day. Everything was organized perfect. Top locations, top guides. Steve was phantastic. A top giude and safe driver. I enjoyed his big knowledge very much. It was all very interessting. A big thank you as well to rodney, our guide through the swamp. Was interessting and funny. I appreciated that the alligaters have names. At lauras we had a perfect tour with cameron. I feel like i know now all the lauras familiy personally. The lunch at dixies was delicious. And finally i want to say thank you to ruby. Sie did a superb job while showing us houmas plantage. History and funny facts. Hope one day i will come back to nola. For sure i will do another tour with you. And I recommend every NOLA-Visitor to do this trip! :-
Excellent experience for our group of 11. We were picked up at our hotel by Gisèle. During the 30 min ride she shared some great facts and stories about New Orleans and gave us the run down on the experience we were about to have. We then were introduced to Capt. Eric who provided a scenic journey through the swamp and marshland. We saw several gators and had 5 approach the boat to snack on chicken drumsticks only!. We learned so much about these animals and conversation efforts in the area. It was thrilling and educational all around! Gisèle was kind enough to drop us off at a local watering hole after so we could keep the party rolling.
We had a fantastic time today with Rene! He got us around safely, gave us a great history tour along the way, and had some good food/drink recommendations. It was really nice to have him do all the driving and escorting us to each stop. For once I didn’t have to stress about parking, not knowing where to go etc. The air boat tour, plantations, and lunch, did not disappoint. Well worth the money and we were able to see/do a lot in one day. 10 outta 10 highly recommend Tours by Isabelle, professional top notch service.
Isabelle was great with communicating the particulars of the tour and what we would need for the day of the tour well in advance. On the day of the tour John was awesome! John picked me up from my hotel on time. From the moment our small group departed, he educated our small group about New Orleans along the way. John’s knowledge of the historical events of the area was phenomenal. The tours of Whitney and St Joseph were very informative. Whitney plantation tells the story from the view of the slave, whereas St. Joseph from the view of the owners. Whitney Plantation has an awesome audio tour. The guide at St. Joseph was friendly and very knowledgeable. The 5 hour day was well worth it and highly recommended!!
Rene is by far the best tour guide we’ve ever had. He knows NO like the back of his hand, historically as well as present day. Plus he gives “insider” information on the best places to eat, drink and to experience quality NO Jazz. The tour of Whitney Plantation is so sad moving and should be visited by everyone especially if you’re skin is white.
Everything about Tours by Isabelle was wonderful. Renee, our tour guide, was a local with a wealth of knowledge about pretty much everything New Orleans. Our drive out and back to the plantations was a learning experience in and of itself! Renee was absolutely fantastic. The small van was clean and comfortable for the short trip and it showed up right on time. Communication with Isabelle prior to our tour was great. She was always quick to answer and all questions. She even added a tour for us at 8:30 am because the other one was full and we couldn't go in the afternoon since it would entail us arriving back in the city too late to make our dinner reservations at Commander's Palace. Book Tours by Isabelle, you won't be disappointed.
My boyfriend and I just did the grand airboat / plantation tour yesterday. It was AMAZING, absolutely worth the money, book now. Our driver, Gisele, was super informative and helpful. She gave us a mini tour on the way to every stop and also gave us recommendations, explained how to use the streetcars, and gave us a little bit of information about her current research project. Make sure you ask her about steamboats! My only concern pre-trip were the drive times so to address that - it wasn't bad at all. The driver will keep you entertained and the rides themselves are a pleasant break for your feet. The swamp tour was wonderful. We saw lots of gators, but even if we hadn't it would have been a good time. The airboat was fun and the scenery was gorgeous. Both plantations were interesting stops. Laura plantation covered both family history and the history of the enslaved populations living there. The tour guide was super passionate about the information he was providing us. Houmas house had breathtaking gardens and an EXPANSIVE home for us to learn about. Both were nice to visit, but completely different experiences from each other. Oh and as far as the food goes? Everything I tried at the lunch was delicious. Gisele recommended the white chocolate bread pudding and was 100% correct. It was the best I've tried. All in all, I definitely recommend booking this tour. The whole day was well thought out. It was an amazing experience and if we come back to New Orleans we will be booking another trip with Tours by Isabelle
We had such a great experience between the swamp boat tour and plantation tour. Our driver René was fantastic. Highly recommend asking for him!!
"Tours by Isabelle" is the only call you should make when looking for adventures in and around New Orleans! Isabelle and her staff are amazing to deal with. Our guide Ellen was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. From the front door of your hotel pick up and drop off, to the small group experience, you won't find better service. The tours to local plantations were the best we've experienced in our numerous travels to New Orleans. I highly recommend Tours by Isabelle, and will certainly be a repeat customer!
