Description

TMFD continues to grow not only in membership but responsibility and coverage. Currently, TMFD consists of close to 70 Volunteer Firefighters and growing, 14 Career Firefighters and an active Junior Firefighter & Explorer Post for teenagers. TMFD’s apparatus include 3 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue, 1 Utility Vehicle, 3 Chief’s cars and an inflatable, gas-powered boat.

The department’s members train throughout the year on diverse subjects such as fire attack techniques, auto accident victim extrications, response to hazardous material and weapons of mass destruction situations, water or ice rescues and more. Several members are certified in advanced rescue operations and emergency medical care. The department’s ongoing commitment to the best in training, equipment, service and personnel is reflected in the Fire District’s excellent class rating of 2 by the Insurance Service Organization.

The types of calls that TMFD responds to run the gamut from the traditional fire calls (structure fires, car fires, automatic alarms, suspicious/burning odors, gas leaks), auto accidents requiring victim extrication using the “jaws of life,” to medical calls and downed power lines. The Fire Department also responds to public assistance calls such as flooding conditions and homeowners locked out of their house (or a child locked in!).

In addition to these calls, The TMFD also responds all around the Sound Shore to surrounding communities with a dedicated team of specially trained Firefighters. The FAST team (Firefighter Assist & Search Team) is a dedicated group of extra firefighters on the scene of an incident in the event that something were to go wrong. Specifically, if a firefighter were to go missing, if they are lost or if they become trapped. Our job as a FAST Team is to ensure that everybody goes home.

Over the 100 year history of the Department, members have come and gone, but there have been two constants: We are a family of Firefighters and we serve our community with great pride. Over the next 100 years, we will continue these grand traditions.
