I am a proud 18 year resident of University City with a strong vested interest in our school district both as a tax payer and as a parent. I value the traditions of our great community and wish to do my part to ensure our school district continues to grow in both tradition and distinction.
Education has always been my passion. I studied K-12 Education at the University of Kansas and volunteered as a research assistant at the KU Child Development Center where I was later employed. I worked for Special School District at Pattonville High School (my alma mater) teaching in their Alternative Learning Program. Several years ago I decided to make a career change and I now serve as the Sales & Marketing Director for a large packaging company employing adults with Developmental Disabilities. I have served the district in many capacities - most recently as President of the Flynn Park PTO for the past three years. I am a four year member of the District-Wide PTO Council, former Board Advisor to the YWCA Afterschool Program and past recipient of the Superintendent’s Choice Award for my contributions to the Bond Committee and my efforts to strengthen district communication. I currently serve on the Accountability Committee providing oversight to the district’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. I also serve on the "Safety in Our Schools" committee.
Our district’s diversity is one of our greatest assets but it also presents unique instructional challenges that we must continue to aggressively address. We must strive for academic excellence through innovative - data driven curriculum and instruction, and by staffing our schools with highly qualified - highly motivated teachers. Upholding and practicing fiscal responsibility is imperative to both the school’s stability and its ability to grow.
Children truly are our future and their potential is enormous. I believe we need to do everything we can to inspire and instill academic excellence at every turn beginning with Early Childhood Education. We are now a fully accredited school district which is great but our work has only just begun. Afterall our vision was never to provide an "adequate" education but rather an exceptional education!
Strong solid schools increase the value of our community and attract future residents. If elected I look forward to continuing to work with other board members, administration, teachers, parents, students and our community as a whole to ensure the children and young adults of our community receive a solid meaningful education.
You have my continued commitment to our school district and I am asking for your support.
Thank You!
