Rugby is one of the fastest growing sport in the U.S. TCRF supports and encourages that growth by continuing to educate youth along the Treasure Coast.
The Treasure Coast Rugby Foundation Inc. assists in the development of sporting, teamwork, leadership and social skills of girls and boys residing on the Treasure Coast through the game of Rugby.
High School age teams for boys and girls have been formed at Lincoln Park Academy, Ft Pierce, Indian River Rugby Club and Sebastian River High School. Additionally, Rookie Rugby, a non-contact flag based form of the game has been introduced into the PE programs at elementary and middle schools in Indian River County.
In 2008, the Lady Sharks Rugby Team at Sebastian River High School became the first girls’ varsity rugby team in the nation. Lady Sharks have enjoyed success at State and Regional level as well as participation in the National Championships on two occasions when they traveled to Utah and Missouri respectively.
In 2015, a boy’s rugby program was also established at SRHS and is quickly growing in popularity and size.
Over the course of the girls program at SRHS, 11 girls have received full 4 year college scholarships to play rugby. The total sum of these scholarships exceeds $1.25 million.
The Treasure Coast Rugby Foundation Inc. is registered as a 501c3 corporation with the Internal Revenue Service.
