The Western Oklahoma Wellness Initiative serves Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills & Washita Counties. WOWI works to make the healthy choice the easy choice!
TSET HLP (Healthy Living Program) focuses on improving the health of the area. The program covers Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills and Washita Counties and operates out of Elk City Youth & Family Services as a group to coordinate a grant awarded to the City of Elk City from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET). TSET was formed after Oklahoma (along with other states) settled with the Big Tobacco Companies of the United States in a huge lawsuit. Oklahoma was the first state to create a trust fund to funnel the settlement payments into. The interest payments from that trust fund actually fund a number of grants including the five-year TSET Healthy Living program which the City of Elk City was awarded in 2015. TSET HLP works with local organizations, businesses, schools, and governments to make changes that will help make healthy choices easier to make. We encourage organizations to remove the barriers to healthy living that may exist within the organization.
