I’m super surprised by all the negative reviews! I had an incredible experience at Tufts today! I went to the emergency department this morning and was seen promptly! The students were incredibly informative and walked me through every step of my appointment. We came to a joint treatment plan where I was given informative options! I highly recommend!
By far the WORST experience I have ever had at a doctor’s office. My appt was scheduled for 9:30a and I wasn’t seen until 11am. The surgeon I went to see was running behind schedule which caused me to take off more time from work. When I finally made it into the office, Dr. Howard was very hasty, condescending, and just flat out rude. She answered none of my questions directly. She spoke very fast, and didn’t allow me to voice my questions or concerns she was running so far behind. She promised to send a referral and have a scheduled call me— which never happened. She promised me she’s have the referral in and a scheduler call me Monday. Here it is, Monday 3:45 and no one has called me to give me any information for a future appt or on the “referral” she put in. I had to call into the office and spoke with someone who put me on a 10 minute hold and promised to call me once before and never did. I got the same woman on the line who couldn’t tell me what time Dr. Howard contacted her with my referral information. This woman told me her name is “Karen”— not sure how true that is, but placed me on another hold to see what time Dr. Howard out the referral in and couldn’t tell me once she came back from hold. Instead asked me if I “want the orthodontist phone number or not.” I’m extremely displeased with the service I received. I paid $134 to be told I need braces. Something I knew before walking in. I wanted to see Dr. David Chang who has excellent reviews. Unfortunately I wasn’t lucky enough. Dr. Howard isn’t on the Tufts website at all, and can’t be googled which tells me she just recently left residency and is already off to a terrible start. Please avoid the headache and book with a seasoned more capable Doctor. As this one has caused me more trouble and money than she was worth.
One full year, for extractions and full dentures? Seriously? My experience has been that there’s little communication between the front office and the dentist. I was not informed of the amount a visit would cost out of pocket until I insisted that if there will be costs, she needs to find out early, so that I could be informed in advance -so I can have the funds available. Five or more visits for impressions due to errors and miscommunications, I should have read reviews. I’ve had plenty of past experiences with BU Dental school but that was fillings and root canals and it was over 20 yrs ago. That’s why I tried Tufts, thinking I’d get better care since I’d have a whole team working on me. Idk why it has become this way, but if you have Mass Health, find a regular dentist who accepts it. You’ll prob save more money and a ton of time. I took time off working in order to get this done. I never expected we would be headed into fall when I finally had new dentures. I feel like I’d get better care in a third world country. I guess this is just the state of health care today. Not enough providers and too much need. Today my dentist called to reschedule my extractions that were slated for Friday, bc I will need a 24 hour follow up, so it should have been a Mon-Thurs, allowing for the follow up the next day. She graduated with her degree in May, shouldn’t she have known the standard practice for scheduling extractions? What’s another week? Good thing I’m not working. Good thing I have financial support. If not, I would’ve taken my records and found a normal dentist. Good thing I didn’t schedule a job interview for next week.
1 star is almost seems too generous. I prefer to post good reviews but I decided to make an exception for this one. I started care with Tuft’s at the beginning of summer of 2022. I first had to get my wisdom teeth removed and then get upper jaw surgery. When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I ended up with three different infections over the course of 3 months. The follow up care was terrible. They would not provide me with antibiotics until I really pushed it and my oral surgeon tried to drain an abyss without any numbing. Now I have braces to prepare for the jaw surgery. I finally got clearance from my orthodontist. When I called Tuft’s to make an appointment with my oral surgeon who by the way, I have been in touch with this whole process they informed me my oral surgeon has left the practice and they no longer take my insurance. So even if I wanted to switch to a different provider, it would not be covered. They basically told me there was nothing they could do. The fact that they didn’t inform me of this until I called is unacceptable in my eyes. Jaw surgery is not just something you can change you mind on once getting braces as in their words “it gets worse before it gets better”. Now I have a worse bite and trouble eating hard foods. I would never recommend Tuft’s to anyone.
Quality of care is great, timeliness is abysmal. I’ve been waiting to get care for over 3 months when one of their own told me I shouldn’t wait for longer than a week. Just got rescheduled without my knowledge had to call in, and the phone operator was unhelpful and rude.
just now NEW Very kind people besides some people look like they don’t wanna be there . but they left pieces of my broken tooth in my gums I had to pull it out of my cheek . I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once . I also think they could’ve done a better job at the stitches and be more careful because they scratched my lip as well . It’s been 8 days and it’s still not close .
I had a broken abscessed tooth removed. There were 5 students in the room which increased my anxiety which increased the pain. The students had the light so close to my face I was sweating profusely from it. Minimal supervision of students and the fact that no one asked me if it was ok to have 5 students over me I find disturbing. I’’m still having issues three months later. I’m afraid to ever go back there, they hurt me so bad. Then having students stand over you laughing about how much pain you’re going to be in is utterly unprofessional.
Terrible! Save your money and time. Four months later, $400 down and no braces. Just a heads up they bill the patient before billing insurance. Interns have very little guidance/support.
Everyone is absolutely amazing! Everyone is so sweet, welcoming, and comforting. I always have had problems with dentists in the past, and have had a huge fear of dentist hurting me but Sydney my student-dentist is my absolute FAVORITE. She’s graduating in May and I just know she’s going to do amazing things in life. I definitely recommend going to tufts for all your dental needs! The process is a little slower but it’s so worth it. Thank you tufts for everything you’ve done for me!
I'm very pleased with the procedure that I had done from beginning up until now its not completed yet...but am impressed....courteous, comfort, cleanliness and very professional....a big shout out to Dr Sanchez...thank you Tufts Dental school.
