In 1881, Tuskegee State Normal School held its first classes. The site shares the history of the school and the people who worked and lived here.
Tuskegee Institute NHS preserves and tells the history of what is now Tuskegee University. This includes the lives of Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver. The George Washington Carver museum and the "Oaks" the home of Booker T. Washington are part of the site.
