The 2011-2012 academic year began with 31 returning contributors and, as the result of new recruiting initiatives, participation in the program was further increased to 61 active bloggers. What began in 2006 with six contributors has grown into a valuable and quantifiable Admissions communication tool. The blog pages alone generate between 15,000 to 20,000 page hits per month and offer prospective cadets unbiased firsthand accounts of the cadet experience.
Contributors volunteer their time and energy in an effort to demonstrate their passion for this institution and the Coast Guard as a whole. Their submissions help cultivate an open dialogue with the young men and women considering Academy life. In addition to writing their regular entries, many contributors encourage prospective cadets to make direct contact via email and are often gratified by the comments they receive.
