U.S. Steel Yard

Description

U.S. Steel Yard is an open-air baseball stadium located in Gary, Indiana next to I-90 in the city's Emerson neighborhood. It is home to the Gary SouthShore RailCats, a professional baseball team and member of the American Association. It seats 6,139 people. It also hosts many Little League Baseball games as well as high school baseball games. The ballpark is notable for holding a memorial service for the late pop musician and Gary native Michael Jackson on July 10, 2009 that was attended by over 6,000 fans, with much of Jackson's family in attendance. The ballpark has had over 2 million fans in attendance during the RailCats team history.HistoryIn February 2001, the Northern League's Board of Directors approved a request by company Northwest Sports Ventures to start an expansion baseball team in Gary, Indiana. The team was scheduled to start play in the 2002 Northern League season. Later that year, a liability company named Victory Sports Group took the task to build a ballpark in downtown Gary. Then, in July 2001, the City of Gary and Victory agree on a 15-year lease that would facilitate the building of a state-of-the-art ballpark with construction scheduled to be completed in May 2002; the groundbreaking ceremony was held at this time. In September 2001, the ownership names this baseball team the Gary SouthShore RailCats, with their stadium to be called RailCats Stadium.

The Gary railcats is a great place to come watch a baseball game. Every seat here is probably a good seat, very reasonable prices and overall a good time. if you get a chance to catch a firework show, it’s a bonus.
We went to the game on a Thursday evening. The employees got the crowd involved, especially during innings. This stadium is very kid friendly, my Granddaughter had a great time! It's so much fun to watch athletes who truly love the game of baseball!
I hadn't been to a Railcats game in years...wow what I've been missing! Absolutely fabulous game! The staff was on point, just lovely! It was clean and fun! They won against the Cougars so of course that was a plus...but the FIREWORKS!!! To die for!! super proud of you Gary!!
Free parking comfy bench seats great view of game and fireworks after plus food beer and souvenirs at a fair price
Went for grandson's 3rd birthday. He threw a ceremonial first pitch. It's a great park and is VERY kid friendly. Just don't wear white bottoms as the area's famous mill dust is on some seats. We're going back at the end of June. Pic shows him warming up.
Had a great time at a game with my better half. It's a lot of fun. There are no bad seats. Cheap night out.
Great place for a nice ball game. Very kid friendly. Nice hometown feel. Not a bad seat in the house. A play area for the kids in the outfield. Affordable food and drinks. Affordable ticket prices! Kids got to run bases, go out to center field with the players for the National Anthem, run through the outfield during one of the latest innings, and several other things.
Have not been to a game in years! Our group had a great time! Every single one of us! Only complaint would be the officer at the end, I had taken my kids to do the base run at the end which was the opposite side of the stadium. We quickly walked back when we were done and I saw the rest of my family walking up the stairs with the officer just standing there after he said "ok you guys need to go and make your way to the exit" which prompted my 8 year old to ask his dad if the cop just yelled at him due to his tone.. We live an hour away so I needed to make sure my kids went to the bathroom before we left. My family walked a little towards the exit then stood to wait for me. The officer made it a point when he saw them waiting to walk and stand right next to them. All they were doing was waiting for us to get out of the restroom, we have small kids and sorry nobody is comfortable leaving me there by myself with them.believe me we weren't trying to hang out at the empty stadium. The other officers were kind but this one the Caucasian man with a beard was on a bit of a power trip or something. But every other person we came into contact with was so kind. We will definitely be back!
Today we took our seniors to the game. I thought it would be more hectic than what it was. Staff was friendly and there was so many options for food. It was really a great time. Especially for my first time. It's fun for family and baseball lovers alike. Go Railcats!!!
