San Antonio's Local 142 is one of 300 locals that are part of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
The "UA" as it is commonly known, is a multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of piping systems, plumbing, HVAC&R, welding, and sprinkler-fitting.
There are approximately 340,000 highly-skilled United Association members who belong to regional local unions across North America.
With over 1000 members and many signatory contractors, working together to provide safe water systems, medical gas piping systems, sanitary piping, and process systems that produce products for many markets.
We also have a local presence in the HVAC&R industry. Our work include the installation, service and repair of small rooftop systems to large central plants for refrigeration, chilled water and steam. No job is too small or too large for the safe, productive and quality work performed by the craftsmen from the United Assoication's Local 142.
Our Apprenticeship Program
Apprentices attend school in the fields of HVAC&R, Pipefitting, or Plumbing during the evening, two nights a week from September to May.
Apprentices work at their chosen trade during the day and get paid while doing it. Working and learning alongside Journeymen performing Plumbing, Pipefitting or HVAC&R related tasks.
Apprentices can be male or female; but, must be at least 18 years of age.
Apprentices must have a High School Diploma or a GED. Former members of the military are eligible.
Our Apprenticeship program is for five years. During this time you learn while you are earning a living.
Not ready for Apprenticeship, maybe the Helper program is for you.
The Helper Program
A helper,or unindentured apprentice, works to assist Journeymen and apprentices with tasks at the jobsite. A helper can be employed by Construction or HVAC employers. The current wage for Helpers is $9.50 p/hr, including Health Insurance.
