I have had U of Iowa College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics as my primary dentist since around 2010, and first went there as a student to have my wisdom teeth removed in 1969. The quality control is incredible, with each step a student takes carefully checked by a professor or instructor. And, as a teaching clinic, all the equipment and techniques are the latest. And . . . the price is incredibly low because they need patients for the students to work with. It's worth a 4 or 5 hour drive just for the quality and the price!!
I had a caring, patient, and highly competent fourth year dental school student do the vast majority of my work. I was never nervous about the process because she would always tell me what she was doing and to tell her if anything hurt. I was sometimes frustrated by the sheer number of appointments I needed to attend consider that I had no major work done. However, this was a lot more affordable than a traditional dental office.
Dr. Sandra Cunha was very friendly, extremely attentive. She gave careful detailed explanation about the steps of treatment, its risks and benefits. Short waiting time. Reception greeting was great. I shall recommend The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics without any reservations.
The women at the front desk were so thoughtful. I was called and one of them told me I was up next. I got up fast when she called, so when I got to the desk, I was dizzy, which I mentioned. She asked if I wanted water and I said yes. She brought me iced water. However, though the students and faculty were good, at what they were doing, I was told by the time I got to my car, I wouldn't be feeling near as much pain dry socket, a medicated strip was applied. At home, an hour later, I was still in pain. I think he was exaggerating.
We were told/ referred to the U of I pediatric because my sons original Dr would not put him under. He is special needs and doesn’t like the dentist anyway and he freaks out when the tools come out. He had one cavity in the front tooth. The Dr at U of I refused to put him under and on top of that he didn’t used the local anesthetic prior to drilling. It was an awe full experience for him. It has been 3 years since and he is super fearful of the dentist more now than before. Awful awful awful
They were very nice but had such a bad experience, there college students learning on you. I went in for a root canal that was suppose to be 30-60 min long I was there from 9am-5pm! They put a rubber band thing around your mouth so nothing falls in while they’re doing it but I had lidocaine fall in my mouth down my throat I started gagging. Then the drill got stuck in the rubber band mouth guard and cut the inside of my lip, not far after that the drill got stuck in my tooth. I had so many needles go in my mouth I felt like I was being tortured, the lady kept saying we are almost done just another hour or 45 min it was never that time just kept passing by I will never ever go here again!!!!!
The appt was scheduled as quick as could; the friendliness from all persons involved was so awesome, it was just welcoming; and when i needed a second appt asap, they actually did it within 7 days. The smiling thru their masks was noticeable & i highly recommend going to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. i grade them as high as i can, plus! thank you
I have traveled 426 miles round trip for all of my ortho work over a two year+ period of time. That's a pretty strong commitment. The patient care and each appointment was handled perfectly. Each member of the team ensured that I felt welcomed, comfortable, informed and taken care of. Adult orthodontia is not an easy undertaking, and I really had no idea what I was getting into. The entire team made the experience very positive. I truly looked forward to each visit. The quality of the work done, in my opinion, was top notch. My ortho visits were coordinated with two of the dentists, Dr. Southard for all ortho work, and Dr. Vargas for all other work. They partnered together for a wholistic solution. Since I traveled such a great distance, they ensured that my appointments were timed so I saw both dentists at the same time. They consulted between my visits to ensure that progress was in line with what they expected. I highly recommend their services. Update - forgot to include that their pricing is very reasonable. I had coverage from two different insurance companies over the course of my treatment, and their office was very easy to work with. Explained everything, submitted all claim forms and ensured that I got the best coverage possible.
I received filling here, I had been feeling bad about the tooth everyday after the filling, then the tooth died. However, the customer representative lady insisted saying it’s not related to the service and rejected to pay for the cost. She only offered me free extraction, and I was even charged of the dead tooth evaluation. The dentist wasn’t even actively reaching out back to me, I felt like just discarded like trash. And I went to endodontist since I didn’t trust the college of dentistry anymore, then I was charged $300 more. I want to talk to the top manger about it. Why nobody cares about student’s benefits? Is it okay to transfer all the risk to students? And is it okay to tell students “this happens, you just need to move on”?
My son had awfully crooked teeth, each one following a different "map" and growing in its own direction. After a few years of hard team work Dr. Thomas Southard and his team of nurses from Orthodontics, an expender, braces, often adjusted chin cup to keep up with his growth, a couple of retainers and many appointments he has the smile of an actor just in time to go to college :. During all this time, my son enjoyed going to the dentist, not once complained! Thank you for the dental wonders you made happen!
