Ulster County Dog Park

Description

This started with some talks in 2009 about why there was not a local dog park in this area....Then For Paws of Ulster came together in 2010 to bring a County Dog Park to New Paltz. As a group, we have been working on this initiative for over five years, and couldn't be more thrilled to finally have our For Paws of Ulster County Dog Park.

Our mission is simple - to create a safe place for our dogs to interact off-leash. Now that we are open (September 23, 2014), we will still be very active in supporting the maintenance and enhancements of the dog park. We also carry insurance and contracts with Ulster County and the Town of New Paltz to ensure the dog park remains open for public use!

For Paws of Ulster, Inc. Board is Christie DeBoer, Marion DuBois, Karen Bennett, Helen Gutfreund, and Danielle Cardella. We're all dog owning residents of Ulster County, who want to be able to bring our dogs to a local dog park, same as you.

We also have a very dedicated volunteer Events Committee who assist with our fundraising and awareness events. If you would like to host an event or help with one of our events, PLEASE let us know!

MEET THE BOARD:

Dr. Karen Bennett, owner of the Compassion Veterinary Center of New Paltz since 1989 joined the For Paws of Ulster Board in early 2014. She looks forward to seeing you in her office and around town where you can submit your suggestions and comments about the progress of the park. Having a safe, accessible and fun place for our good dogs to meet and play is a priority!

Christie DeBoer, Executive Director of the Wallkill Valley Land Trust, is "mom" to Cricket, Cosmo, and Coco: all rescued terriers. At home she also has Rocky, a mutt mix that is 15 years young with her partner Eric Fye. Christie originates from Miami, FL and has 15 years experience in wildlife conservation and environmental education. She is often seen in and around Ulster County being walked by her pups, especially on Huguenot Street, where her office is located!

After her family, Marion DuBois' true love lies in all creatures both wild and domestic. Marion spent nine years on the New Paltz Town Board working as an environmentalist and animal advocate. She now continues this work as a proud member of the Town of New Paltz Clean Water and Open Space Preservation Commission. Marion's goal is a safe and healthy environment for all and an Ulster County Dog Park is a big step toward this goal.

Helen Gutfreund is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center and mother of two rescue dogs - Noodle, a miniature poodle mix, and Frisky, a Cocker/Clumber Spaniel mix. She joined the Board in the summer of 2014 after being involved with For Paws of Ulster, Inc. from it's inception as a volunteer for our many fundraising events, as well as assisting with social media.

Please help us continue to make this park everything our dogs (and we) need!

Haven't been here in a long time.......Over grown, doesn't look like it is being maintained. No bags for waste. Doesn't look like many people use this dog park anymore.
This place is the best I wish it was a little closer to where I live. It's around 20 minutes and is the closest one to me but it has everything you'd need. Nice walking trails in the woods and a large and small dog area that is well stocked with bags for picking up poo and always a group of friendly puppers. Update Nov 2022 - been here a few times lately. There's always at least one other person with a dog here but it's been very quiet. Only 1 or 2 other dogs. Many times I've had to wait 30 minutes for someone else to show up so my dogs aren't playing alone. Well stocked w dog bags and clean but wish there was some more action. I drive a bit to get here to have my dogs socialize and get out some energy. I can't control that it isn't busy but I wish more people used the place it is nice
Fantastic dog park: Large, grassy, quiet, clean and well-maintained. Away from noisy roads and other facilities. Best dog park we've found in the state so far. Agility obstacles for the dogs and shade and seating for the parents. Plenty of parking.
This place was great - I found it to be much better than the other reviewers. It was really big, had separate gated halves for small dogs under 30 lbs and large dogs, was grassy with trees and a few big rocks, had benches, and had stands fully stocked with poop bags and trash cans. Not sure what more you could ask for from a dog park. The GPS issue must have been corrected - mine took me right there, plus there were signs for the dog park along the road leading up to it.
Nothing spectacular but its all we got. It's also run by volunteers, so I commend the kind people for keeping this park running. Cons: Its hard to find and you must bring your own water. Pro: Large field with separate areas for large and small dog.The people are well behaved and dogs do a great job of looking after their owners.
HUGE park, nicely fenced in, separated areas for different dog sizes but better used to separate sociable pups from not, built in poo bags and garbages, water bowls that love there, lots of tennis balls. The perfect dog park!
We come up from Brooklyn to New Paltz quite often and this place is great to tire the pooch out. The park is divided into two sections large & small dogs and is large enough to play a serious game of fetch and let the dog run freely. Nestled down the trail and surrounded by woods, I really am glad to have found this one. The only drawback is that the fence doesn't go all the way to the ground and smaller dogs can shimmy their way under. My dog 50 lbs vizsla was able to get under when his ball rolled out. Luckily he has good recall but if a dog doesn't then you might have a problem.
Park is located in the back of the fair grounds parking area. Across from the wooden entrance take this road. Go all the way up the hill. Dog park is in back right past the volley ball court. Keep dogs on leash from car to park and back. There are coyotes that l live in this area and have taken some pets for dinner. Don't be a dummy.
Can't find it. GPS brings you to private property. Since posting this I found the park. It's up the rd from where the GPS tells you to turn. It's on the right hand side it's a very small sign follow the sign into the parking lot of the elster county feel grounds on the right hand sidecoming from 299
Fabulous dog park.
