Called to report a gas leaks in my 6 story office building. Got chewed out because I didn’t “call 911”. But since I’m not located in cottonwood heights, I CAN’T call 911 you can only call them if you’re physically in that location. I had called them and they told me to call this number instead . Told them there is a gas line break outside our building and I don’t think the fire department knew it is actually PUMPING gas into the office building. The gas smell was absolutely overpowering on the 1st floor, and I was on the 3rd floor where it was strong enough to give me a headache. I left the building when one of my coworkers said to evacuate. I assumed police officers/fire officials told her. However, 40 min later I find out half of the people are still in there and nobody had evacuated them. Many on the 4th-6th floor. I called to let the fire department know there were people in the building that needed to be evacuated and got chewed out for “calling the wrong number” and told “if there is a leak then there are competent people there they what they are doing”. Nice. So if anyone lights a match, and the building explodes, I’m sure they know what they are doing. Just trying to make you aware that no fire personnel or police officials told ANYONE to evacuate. But, I’m sure they know what they are doing…. The 30 people that left because of headaches and dizziness, is probably no big deal. Glad to know going out of your way to make sure people are safe is considered inconveniencing the fire department because “this number is for the main headquarters”. This guy needs to be fired. An absolute jerk.
I'm so grateful that you guys were able to help out my friend. I'm writing this on a whim because I don't know whether you check these or not, but either way, I think it's important to let this be known. I heard from her that one of your paramedics told her to "Stop Overreacting" for having "I want to die" written on her arm. Aparently they also said that they had seen people overreacting before, and that this was that. Let me tell you, she's not overreacting, she's been struggling with her mental health for a while and had that written down long before she had her seizure. I hope that whoever that was knows that I'm extremely grateful for their work, but that they should be sure to keep such damaging comments quiet from now on. You never know what somebody could be going through, and making rash judgements may make things worse out of an already tough situation.
Gets the jobs done. Thanks to these local heros our home didn't burn to the ground. If you smell smoke or hear an alarm, call them. They are trained for this and do their job well. Props to the team.
