The United States Penitentiary, Lompoc is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in California. It is part of the Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also has a satellite prison camp for minimum-security male inmates. It was formerly a military disciplinary barracks on Camp Cooke.FCC Lompoc is located within the city of Lompoc, 175mi northwest of Los Angeles, adjacent to Vandenberg Air Force Base.FacilityThe Medium security complex also contains a maximum security wing constructed in 2006 known as the "SHU" or "Special Housing Unit". Inmates in the SHU remain in their cells 24/7 as the cells are equipped with showers. Inmates may be placed in the SHU as a disciplinary measure or for administrative reasons. The treatment of inmates in the SHU is comparable to that found at the United States Penitentiary, Florence ADX, the federal supermax prison in Colorado.There are two minimum security prison camps that also house adult male inmates. One is a Federal Prison Camp, the other is a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Camp.
