Not the worst apartment housing but definitely not the best. The fact your delivery can't be delivered to your room is ridiculous. Also depending on the time and day you will either get good or terrible customer service. Not the worth money unless you want to feel SAFE living on campus. EDIT: No Ethernet port. Technically there is one but they refuse to elaborate why it don't work Internet feels like it runs underwater. Good luck gaming online with your friends.
Water frequently out, poor internet and no option to use your own router, noisy, bugs, not enough washing machines. Only plus is that it's close to classes but not worth what they charge
Would be a decent lace to live on campus if not for the constant power & water outages as well as elevator outages. For the amount this place costs to live there shouldn’t be that many outages.
This is my honest experience of the lofts at UofH. Overall I would say it was a good place to live with a some hiccups along the way that makes this a mix review. Positives: What I loved the most was how close it is to my school's building and the layout of the loft itself. In my opinion it is one of the best options if you're a junior/senior and want to live on campus. There is a nice rooftop with a view of downtown was a great spot for hosting friends and a small market downstairs has good snacks and drinks. Negatives: Very very expensive. It will add to your debt if you don't pay out of pocket. The A/C thermostat range has been limited to only allow 70 to 74 degrees. Before covid I could change it from 65 to 80 degrees. The management did this to compensate lost revenue and save money. They claimed they were following CDC guidelines but the maintenance men and I agreed that was a lie. There are roaches in the building like every building in every cityand can crawl in your bed with you at night. SO BE CLEAN and tape the edges of any openings around your wall outlets and switches since they live in the walls. Tapping off these cracks and openings along with being clean will help prevent them from coming into your room. I would recommend if it you can afford it and take these bug precautions.
I lived at the Calhoun lofts for one semester and would not recommend it to anyone looking for housing around campus. The fire alarm went off 4 times while I lived there causing the entire building to evacuate. Every time it was just someone cooking in their room that set off the extremely sensitive fire alarms. I thoroughly cleaned out my room before I checked out and was still charged a $200+ "cleaning fee". I have called and emailed to dispute this charge since I discovered it at the beginning of the semester. The residential life coordinator has not even bothered to call or email me back 3 months later. Its almost like she's just ignoring me because she knows that regardless the charge will be tied to my UH account. Rent is expensive for what it is but you assume that coming in. You're paying for the convenience of living on campus and being able to wake up and walk to your class. Looking back at it, it was not at all worth the price i paid in rent. If you're an upperclassman you're better off renting off campus.
It was the best and nicest place to live on campus at the time. I wish the lofts only offered one bedrooms or studios. I had a two bedroom and one bathroom which was horrible. Roommate from hell: opposite schedules, I worked he didn't, didn't contribute to the place. Finally moved out and switch to a studio much better. I loved it when they put in better washers and dryers.
Lived here for two years, I'm shocked at all the bad reviews. I had no problems except there were bugs every now and then. However the exterminator came fast and I didn't have to see them again. Also the price is expensive. But it's the best place to stay on campus if you can afford it. The best part for me was that it had a kitchen, and I cook most of my meals. Also, the staff was really friendly.
Not worth the cost. The building is falling apart, not well kept cleanliness, lots of water damages/outages, loft staff is rude, walls are thin, and appliances/furniture are the cheapest possible. They also trap students. If you end up not liking it and want to move out it it will cost you the full semester amount + $750 severance fee+ your deposit!
This place is way over priced. Multiple times I complained about loud neighbors these walls are paper thin to no avail. The elevators are constantly shutting down, and the front desk is filled with rude people. Living off campus is so much cheaper and you get more privacy. It was a nightmare living here, I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
A bit expensive but I live there for 2 years in a great room. No issues with roommates since I lived on a 1-room apt right across from the Terrace on the 9th floor which was awesome. Great for pre-gaming and after parties. Can't complain. I'm taking 1 star since the fire alarm went off like 4 times, plus the drills required by University policies
