The Mission of the College of Liberal Arts and Education
The College of Liberal Arts and Education prepares students to participate in a diverse and changing world in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions as "men and women for others."
The College provides a student-centered education in an urban context which stimulates a desire for the life-long exploration of the intellectual, spiritual and ethical dimensions of what it means to be human.
The legacy of University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan's oldest and largest Catholic university, began more than 125 years ago. Our founders, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Religious Sisters of Mercy, have always believed in the power of education to change people and, through them, the world. To that end, each order began colleges to foster the intellectual, social, spiritual and moral development of individuals.
