Welcome to the Division of Ethnic Studies official Facebook page. We are part of the new School of Cultural & Social Transformation at the U of Utah.
Beginning in 1968, the Black Studies, Chicano Studies and Native American Studies Programs evolved as separate entities in different units at the University of Utah. By the 1976-1977 academic year, the programs consolidated to form the core of the Ethnic Studies Program. Up until 2016-2017, the College of Social and Behavioral Science houses the degree as well as serves as the curriculum adoption apparatus for new course proposals
In 2016-2017, the program became a Division as part of the new School of Cultural & Social Transformation that also includes the Division of Gender Studies.
Ethnic Studies is a scholarly-academic program with a focus on the distinctive social, political, cultural, linguistic and historical experiences of racialized groups in the United States. We provide instructional support for the Diversity Scholars’ Program.
