Description

The Department earned "Program of Distinction" status from the State of Florida in the 1970s. The contributing reasons to "Program of Distinction" status are threefold: (1) UWF offers smaller classes than larger institutions, (2) faculty get to know students and will know your name, and (3) it is the philosophy of the Department to hire faculty with real-world experience in addition to being appropriately qualified academically.

The Department has 14 faculty members, 4 in finance and 10 in accounting with a wide range of teaching specializations and research interests, and 3 Emeritus professors. The strength of the Department is our faculty, as our faculty members "know what you need to succeed" in business. Products

The Department confers the BSBA degree on its undergraduate majors. The Department offers specializations in Accounting and Finance. The Department also offers the opportunity for a dual degree with specializations in Professional Accountancy and Finance. Additionally, the Department offers students the opportunity to obtain minors in Finance and/or Forensic Accounting. At the graduate level, the Department confers the Master of Accountancy degree. The Department also offers a Certificate Program for those students who desire to obtain enough hours to sit for the CPA Exam in Florida, but do not desire to obtain a Master of Accountancy degree. The Certificate Program enables qualified graduates of UWF or other universities to take four 5000 level courses, all of which are offered online, and upon completion receive a Certificate from The University of West Florida.
