Under the direction of conductor Taras Krysa, the UNLV Symphony Orchestra is enriching the cultural life of UNLV and the Las Vegas community.
The UNLV Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of conductor Taras Krysa, and it is comprised of undergraduate and graduate music majors, minors, and non-music majors.
The UNLV Symphony Orchestra’s mission includes:
• Training music majors to become professional performers and teachers.
• Introducing non-music majors to a high level of music-making.
• Enriching the cultural life of UNLV and the Las Vegas community.
The orchestra presents as many as eight programs each season including a variety of standard symphonic orchestral repertoire, ranging from early Baroque through modern contemporary, and one complete staged opera. The final concert of each season features the student winners of the annual UNLV Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
The list of guest conductors and soloists with the UNLV Symphony Orchestra includes Itzhak Perlman, Sarah Chang, Rachel Lee, Edgar Meyer, Oleh Krysa, Wei Wei Le, Andrew Smith, Mykola Suk, Kaitlen Tully and many others. Past music directors included Jim Stivers, Tad Suzuki, Hal Weller and George Stelluto.
